For those of you who were there and for those who were not there, the first annual Over-30 bowling night was a great success. If you were not able to attend you missed a great time and anyone who was there would actually tell you this. How can you not have a great time when there is FREE Chinese food (lots left over as well) thanks to Ray Nickerson, and FREE bowling (even no cost for shoes) thanks to Jim Barber. We had close to 30 players and some wives who participated in this event, while some sat back, ate the food, drank a few beers and had themselves a good laugh (we even Ray Nickerson smiling) and having a good time as well; no truth to the rumor that he wanted some free phantom assists on some of Matty's marks thrown (which were few and far betwee). Next time we organize this, you should plan on attending and having a great time.
And the winner was? Jim Barber, who dominated his competition with a 3 string total pinfall of 371 followed by a distant second by Matt Iannello with a total pinfall of 322 and bringing up the rear was the young gun (and some believed the odds on favorite) Ray Dow with a total pinfall of 317. Yes, the scores do not lie, it was not even close, as Jim can now hold on to Over-30 league bragging rights of being a true "2 sport" athlete and champion (well at least for one sport he is a champion and can actually score).
For his effort, Jim won the league donated cash prize of $50 as well as the trophy award. There is no truth to the rumor that Jim had a lopsided home lane advantage of working at the bowling alley, nor is it true that he was there since 11:00 am practicing all day for this event.
Dave Hill was the other big winner, taking $20 from Scott Young in their side bet of eventual champion. By the end of the night, the money was flowing fast and furious on multiple one frame roll-offs. Even Naz stepped up and bowled head-to-head against the trio of Jim-Matty-Ray. No confirmation as to how much Naz got fleeced on this deal.
Pre-Bowling wagers and favorites;
I am all set for my pick on the side betting. Here is my pick and logic:
Matty I - with a self-imposed nickname like Mr. Perfect you have no fear, no concerns. You have proven again time after time how to come up big on the hockey rink and deliver the goods. The only concern is this is a bowling alley and not a hockey rink. However, your favorite NFL football team is the Green Bay Packers and they are the defending champs and look ready for a repeat. Thus, in bowling terms, if you want to be a champion, you first have to go through the champion.
Jim - too much pressure with bowling and acting as host at his dad's bowling alley. We all have seen what happens when Jim tries to play and keep the website updated.That personal stats are non-existent. He will hang around until the end when his dad calls him to work the front desk and hand out shoes and then he is all done.
Ray - the young gun will keep the pressure on the 2 veterans and be leading for most of this match until with only a few frames to bowl, he throws consecutive gutter balls and mentally falls apart and finishes in dead last.

This is going to sound wierd but I put my money on jeez guess who hmm oh ya me :) ~ Matty I
Like Scott I like Matty aka Mr. Perfect to win this. Right now I will go on record and wager $20 me against you that Matty will win this competition. Matty against your boy Ray. A straight up winner take all bet for $20 just between you and me. Is it a bet? ~ Bill Abcunas
All my money is going on Ray since the great one only thinks about himself when it comes to hockey. ~ Naz
The lack of repect Jimmy is getting is????? My money is still on the underdog (Jim) ~Dave “The only smart one in the bunch” Hill
Dave if you feel that strongly about Mr. Underdog (or should I say Mr 3 points, all assists, per season) then why not step up and make your bet with Scott? ~ Bill Abcunas
Who is collecting? I am putting $20 on Matty and waiting for the Over under on Point
differential??? Extra drinking Money! ~Scott“I’m soon to be out $20 Bucks”Young
