Official Newsletter of the Old-Time Hockey Over-30 League
24 Years and counting

Game results and Player(s) of the Week
On behalf of the Over-30 league I would like to welcome back all the players, game officials, administration staff and fans to the start of our 24th Anniversary year.
For all those grizzled veteran players I certainly hope that 4-months of downtime allowed you to rest up and come back refreshed and ready to go.
For all our rookie players, you are part of the single largest new player class the league has ever had. We expect you will inject a lot of youthful enthusiasm not only with your team mates but also into the league.
This year marks a departure from previous years as we have moved players around and have broken up certain player combinations, to allow players to play with some fresh new faces. We feel that all the teams are balanced and expect another close competitive race for the playoffs and Over-30 championship.
I would encourage all the players to read and familiarize themselves with the Over-30 league Zero Tolerance Policy as stated on the league website. (See below).
On behalf of Kellie and myself, I thank you all for continuing to show your loyalty and support of the Over-30 league in making this the very best Dek Hockey league around.
Let the games begin and to quote the web master, let's have some fun out there
Director, Over-30 League
Your one and only pre-season reminder
Zero Tolerance Policy
To all players in the Over-30 League:
This is a reminder that the league has a “Zero Tolerance Policy” in effect. When you participate in the league you acknowledge that it’s your responsibility to be respectful of all players, referees, scorekeepers, administrative support individuals and the facilities.
You are responsible for your actions, stick, and emotions at all times. The following are (some) examples of actions that will not be tolerated (along with minimum possible suspensions) and will lead to disciplinary action up to and including suspension along with possible expulsion from the league:
Verbal abuse of referees, players, scorekeepers and league administrators (misconduct, game misconduct, minimum of 1-2 games suspended)
Any physical contact with a referee, timer or administrator inside or outside the facility (misconduct, game misconduct, minimum of 2-3 games suspended)
Throwing or slamming of sticks (minimum of unsportsmanlike conduct, misconduct or game misconduct and possible suspension)
Defacing or damaging the facilities (minimum of misconduct, game misconduct and suspension)
Abuse of facilities(minimum of game misconduct, 2-3 games suspended)
Any intent to injure occurrences (minimum of match penalty, game misconduct and suspension)
All incidents are reviewed by the League Director with input from the Board of Directors and all decisions are final. There is no appeals process.

Welcome and Welcome Back
The 2015 Winter Season will mark one of the largest “Rookie” Class in recent history. As more of the “Over-30” veterans are turning 50 and in some cases 60 we had to bring in some fresh meat or as Billy calls them “$” just like when Prince changed his name to a symbol.
How to identify Prince from the Rookies...
Here is the 2015 Winter Season Rookie Class… along with the Agent that sponsored and vouched for their playing ability and financial status. Should the rookies not live up the minimal playing requirements (Can you tie your own shoes and hold a hockey stick) and also their fiduciary obligations (Are you paying the $240 in Cash or Check)… We reserve the right to ban the sponsoring Agent from making future recommendations and in the event of delinquent or absent payments, the Over-30 collections team will seek compensation of the past due balance from their sponsored Agent.
Rookie (Agent) & Comments
Walter Maslak (Free Agent)
Used to be real good – but will that time off affect him
Steve Iacoviello (Jon Picard)
aka “Sir Mix-a-Lot” for all your party needs
Gino Tammaro (Rick Cassano)
Another Pisano - used to be a fast tenacious forward (Used to be)
Alex Leone (Ray Nickerson)
Hopefully he’s not a whiner like Ray
Joe Carlton (Nick Romano)
High expectations if his ankles don’t clot up again
Brian Kehoe (George Medeiros)
Who cares about a “Brian” Kehoe when we’re focused on “Jamie”
Steve Medeiros (George Medeiros)
There’s a new “Curse" in town – Stay tuned
Jason Carrien (Ray Dow)
Excellent Defenseman - Technically this is his “full” rookie season
So to all the rookies… Show up every week, play hard and pay up! Your Agents future with the league depends on it.
Aside from welcoming the “Rookies” we would also like to welcome back returning players Shawn Miville and Steve Witkus.
Shawn Miville re-enters the league with the highest of all expectations as he is an immediate candidate for the 2015 Winter Season League Leading Scorer. Rumor has it Billy saved 60% on cost the glass trophies because he had Shawn Miville, Matty Iannello and Dominic DeFrancisco etched into (3) of the trophies at the time of production run. Billy will hand out one of those three and send the other two to Africa where they will be used as bookends for the same family that owns the “Seattle Seahawks World Champions” Shirts and Baseball caps.
Shawn is also projected to go high in the Fantasy Draft and rival Dominic and Matty for the #1 pick.
Another key play maker and blue line defender Steve Witkus is making a somewhat temp (to perm) return to the league. Steve will be used as a “Defenseman for hire” until he is able to be placed permanently on a team… which is just another reason the rookie class of 2015 needs to step their games up… you don’t want a guy like Witkus looming in the shadows waiting for an under-performing (or deadbeat) rookie to screw up.
What to watch for this season
In recent years we have begun to track player’s milestones in their Over-30 Hockey career. These milestones are celebrated with a ceremonial ball and photo opt.
Please join us in either cheering for or jeering against the players listed below:
Next Career Milestone

14 assists for 200
1 goal for 100
2 assists for 100 & 2 points for 200
14 goals for 100 & 29 points for 200
10 points for 100 points
needs 6 goals for 100
Three-peat 1st Runner-Up Losers?
Mattie Iannello and Ray Nickerson could make history and join a select group of players who have lost 3 (or more) consecutive Finals. The TOP Two All-Time Leading Scorers are endangered of becoming #1 Losers.
This exclusive group of 1st Runner-Up Losers include:
Jamie Kehoe’s 2015 Winter Slogan that has been bestowed upon him is… “Drive for Five”.
Last season Jamie Kehoe accomplished what former teammates Jim Barber, Mark Stickney, and John Desmond failed to do when they were “Chasing History”. Jim and company fell short of 4-consecutive championships (mainly because of a “scheduling” sabotage), but former (two-time champion) Shooting Stars teammate Jamie kept the winning streak going and became only the 2nd player in league history to win 4-consecutive championships.
The only other player to accomplish this task is the former antagonist and now current female goalie hacker Pat Pirone.
#1 Shooting Stars
#2 Shooting Stars
Look closely and you will notice a common thread between both championship teams. Do you see it? Both teams had a Gardynski in net. Who’s Jamie’s goalie this season? Why it’s none other than Billy Gardyski Sr. I think we have a new league nickname for Jamie… He will be now referred to as “The Gardynski Whisperer”
Can he win #5 with Sr in net along with current 2-time Finals Losers Matty Iannello and Ray Nickerson providing for a Yin and Yang season for Jamie.
Good Luck Jamie (you’re gonna need it)… “Drive for Five” is officially on
With the back-to-back Championship Wins for GoodFella’s… the following players have the potential to become the next inductee into the “Three-peat Championship Club”
Scott Young, John Kelleher, Joe Mancinelli, Rick Cassano, Angelo Deluca, Mike Collins, Mario Deluca, Colleen Sedille and Bill Gardynski Jr… all have a shot of joining the “Three-peat” Club.
Good luck to all of you as well
Next Up: “Smilin Pete Lodi - Pink Stick Bag Challenge”
Tony “Munchkin” Mastrocola and John Mastrocola will take the 2015 Winter Season “Smilin Pete Lodi - Pink Stick Bag Challenge” and become the first-ever brothers to accept this challenge.
Together the “tiny duo” needs to score 14-goalsto complete the challenge.
We will also be taking side “cash only” bets on
Who scores the first goal of the challenge?
John 2:1 or Tony 100:1
Who will score the most goals during the challenge?
John 2:1 or Tony 100:1
Who will score the last goal of the challenge?
John 20:1 or Tony 5:1
Who will stay healthy enough to finish the challenge?
John 6:1 or Tony 6.5:1
Will they beat they challenge?
Yes 200:1 No 2:1
Over/Under is 11 – 3:2
All these questions will be answered during this upcoming season…Good luck to all the current and returning players and good luck to the rookies… and remember don’t disappoint your Agents.
