We apologize to those players you had a good game last week and came here to read about it. Players like;
Rob Valley who scored a goal during his first ever Over-30 game
Manny Nunes who returned and inspired the Drama Queens
Jake Brum pitches a shutout during his debut
Joe Carlton, Rich Pelletier and Dominic DeFrancisco who all had 2-goal games
To the rookies and returning veterans this is normally the section where you read all about the highlights and game summaries… but someone didn’t do their job on Week #1
Rest assure there’s 19-more weeks in the 2021 “Déjà flu” Season to hopefully read about the game highlights and summaries. Thankfully the “Top 3 Weekly” stars were announced before nap time.
Trash Can Talk
2021 “Déjà flu” Season
If history repeats itself every 100-years (or so) with the 1918-1920 Spanish Flu and the current 2019-2020 China Virus.., then according to our calculations, the 2120 Winter Season will be the next time this “rare occurrence” happens for the Over-30 League.
What’s the “rare occurrence” we are talking about?
The “rare occurrence” of a first-time ever.., “3rd Season” with the same team.
Typically we have the “Winter & Summer” Seasons.., but with this $hitShow we now know as COVID-19 it has thrown a monkey wrench into 2020-2021 Seasons (and with the 6+ month, followed by a 2-week shutdown) the league decided it would be best to play a 3rd (longer) season to bridge the gap with the hopes of by August 2021 the league will return to “normal” for its 30th Anniversary.
So since we are not playing what should have been slated as the “2020 Winter Season” we are marking the history books as the "2021 “Déjà flu” Season" to differentiate and commemorate the hopefully once in a lifetime occurrence.
With players opting out of the previous season the league has been busy trying to fill the voids and re-balance the league for the 2021 “Déjà flu” Season.
Shawn Miville has been placed on an indefinite league suspension.
Sergio Costa has been moved from Jake-O-Lanterns to Shockwave to make room for a new defenseman.
Matty Iannello will return to center for Jake-O-Lanterns, that experiment is over.
Johnny Mastrocola is returning from his long-term IR and a little lighter in the coin purse.
Umberto “Papa Smurf” Biancardi is returning to action after his hiatus.
John“Pinky” Colucciello is returning after his contract demands were met.
Rich Pelletier after being a fill in player for Shockwave will officially start his rookie season.
Pedro Fontes will also become full-time for Snow White in his bid for Rookie of the Year.
Rob Valley after years or courting and asking he finally joins the league to replace Shockwave’s former #1 Defenseman Jason Glista who opted out for this season.
Jake Brum will fill the crease for Drama Queens and permanently replace Jeff Deharo.
Breaking News..., we interrupt this regularly scheduled welcome wagon of team adjustments to bring you breaking news on a blockbuster move in the Over-30 League.
This just in… Assistant League Director and Jake-O-Lanterns 4th defenseman Mike Naczas has announced he is suspending his campaign towards a playoff berth and switching places with head Referee Jon Picard.
Jon “Pic” Picard will join the Jake-O-Lanterns effective immediately and assume Naz’ Jersey number and his “A” to retain the right to speak with his former co-worker and new head Referee Ric Aylwin and the newly demoted #2 Referee Mike Naczas.
We asked Jon for his comment on the move and he said.., “I’m sick of watching Jim Barber winning back-to-back championships, someone needs to stop him and his “stacked” team of Olive Pits to prevent the first ever attempt at a “Team-Three-peat”
This is a blockbuster move for the Jake-O-Lanterns and a decline in the league for referee standards set by Pic.., but we have several questions;
Will “Pic” prevent Olive Pits from their “Team-Three-peat”?
Will “Naz” get yelled at for missing calls?
Will the Jake-O-Lanterns finally get the kick in the ass that they so desperately need?
Will Jake Deehan settle down with his new and improved defensive core?
Will Ray Nickerson be jealous of Matty & Pic being reunited together and demand a trade from Snow White?
All of these questions and more will be answered in the coming months.
We now return you to the regularly scheduled PUTA Forum
Dave Wilson returns to the league playing full time in his blue #1 XXL Dress with Shockwave.
Steve Silveira is back with a mission to help solidify the defense for Jake-O-Lanterns.
Manny Nunes returns to add to the leagues Portuguese takeover. Once known for his “house of cards” style of play.., look for Manny to add speed and scoring with less drama for his new team.
After being knocked out in the finals 5-2 by Olive Pits.., Drama Queens was “Back-in-Black” with their convincing 5-0 shutout win over the Jake-O-Lanterns.
A rejuvenated Joe Carlton started his redemption season with a new line-mate and 2-goals.
After a dismal performance during their championship Donny Maccini was promoted to a winger role (where you typically hide your worst player)… and he managed to get on the scoring sheet with just a single assist despite touching the ball no less that 35-times.
New Jake in Town
If there was every motivation for Jake Deehan to take his game to the next level it’s another goaltender named Jake in the league.
This season Jake Deehan has something to prove to his teammates.., not only do you not want to be the first ever goalie to miss the playoffs for a 3rd straight season with the same team.., but we don’t want to have to choose between a new “Jake from StateFarm” and “Jake put out to a Farm”.
This is a statement year for you Jake.., time to step-up and show the team named after you that you’re ready for a playoff run.
0.00 GAA Start
“New Jake”Jake Brum looked impressive in his Over-30 debut with a 5-0 shutout.
Let’s see if Jake Brum can keep pace with Dave Giusti’s rookie start with 2-Shutouts and a 3rd underway before Matty Iannello took him out for the season.
Snow White was on their way to the electric chair to get shocked by Shockwave after a 4-0 start by the former #1 seed.., but then a hockey game broke out and actually turned into an entertaining comeback effort.
The difference between Jake-O-Lanterns 4-0 hole and Snow White’s 4-0 deficit was that Snow White didn’t lie down.
Sure we heard both teams grumbling about being down 4-0 and neither Goalie wants to put their team in that position.., but the difference was the forwards for Snow White kept attacking and despite the 6-4 loss actually made it a pretty good game to watch.
The Over-30 League Officials want to extend their sincerest apology to Olive Pits the 2020 Spring Champions. League Officials were so focused on not forgetting the new pre-game thermometer… that they actually left the most important item home.., the Championship Trophy.
There is no truth to the rumor that once Olive Pits was in a commanding lead that league officals concocted a story about leaving the trophy home.., and just left it in the League Director's trunk.
When reporters asked Captain Jim Barber what he thought about the league “forgetting” the trophy at home the Captain just said; “Keep it there… we’ll take two pictures with it in April 9, 2021”
