Game results and Player(s) of the Week
Week of October 18 (Game 1) – Blowout game #1 featured FOURget About-it coming into this game on a three game winning streak and Who Needs Superstars trying to build some momentum off a big win the previous week. Who Needs Superstars did just that in spanking FOURget About-it 5 – 1.
The combination of Mike Luise and Derek Shaw proved too much offense for FOURget About-it to handle in this game. Mike remained on a hot goal scoring streak with his second consecutive multiple goal game as he scored 2-goals, while Derek broke out of a three game scoreless streak by scoring 1-goal and adding 1-assist. Speaking of streaks, team mate Sergio Costa continued his by scoring at least a goal in all seven games he has played this season.
Week of October 18 (Game 2) – Blowout game #2 saw Goodfellas win their third game in their last four games played to keep their hot streak going, as they soundly defeated That’s a Plus by the score of 4 – 1. In the process, they held the Portuguese Power duo of Tony Medeiros and Dominic Defrancisco to only 1-goal scored. Even more impressive for Goodfellas was they won this game missing most of their first line and one of their top defensemen.
Joe Mancinelli played a big role in his team’s offense as he set up three goals, Rick Cassano had a monster all-around game scoring 1-goal and adding 1-assist, while the defensive pairing of Jamie Kehoe and Mario Deluca not only played some shutdown defense, but, each also scored a goal.
Week of October 25 (Game 1) – Finally! Finally, Legends Last Stand got rid of that damn winless monkey off their backs with an emphatic 7 – 2 trouncing over Goodfellas. This was without a doubt their best all-around performance as a team since the season began. With this win, Legends Last Stand kept their playoff hopes alive for this season and served notice that they may just be back in the picture as a contender? Time will tell if this is the case.
Perhaps the return of Anthony Lauletta from IR played a major factor here as his mere presence seemed to elevate the overall play of his team, showing that he himself had not lost his scoring touch with 1-goal and 2-assists. Matty Iannello definitely brought his A-game this week, as he scored 1-goal and set up 3 others, while Ray Nickerson was actually seen running on the rink that resulted in 2-goals scored as well as assisting on another goal. Rookie defenseman John Lasala Jr. continues to develop into a franchise offensive defenseman by scoring 2-goals.
Week of October 25 (Game 2) – In a well-played back and forth game between two evenly matched teams, FOURget About-it jumped back into first place overall with a gritty 4 – 3 overtime win over That’s a Plus. Mark Stickney was the hero of this game with his goal in overtime with just over a minute to play, as his turnaround shot from the right wing boards caught the goalie napping.
After each team scored in the first period, this turned into the John Desmond vs. Tony Medeiros offensive show as each player scored 2-goals. But the best player on the rink for either team was without a doubt Dominic Defrancisco who hustled all over the rink, fore-checking and back-checking, to generate 3-assists. There was just no slowing down Dominic during this game as FOURget About-it had no defensive answer.
Not to be overshadowed here was the solid performance of goalie Scott Rosato of FOURget About-it who faced thirty-two shots in this game, many from point blank range, to keep his team in this game.
Trash Can Talk
Anything you can do I can do better (and longer)
John Lasala Jr… the new “King of the Loooong Shot Goals” riffled off another blast from his own defensive zone and scored a goal (from his white line) on the #1 Goalie Billy Gardynski Jr. We suspect that Billy had his Blocker and Glove on the wrong hands… because Jr doesn’t give up those types of goals.
However, someone who DOES give up those “Loooong Shot Goals” is none other than the current “Longest Goal in League History Record Holder”; Alby Luise.
Not to be outdone… and still snickering from watching Billy Gardynski Jr give up such a long goal, Alby Luise didn’t notice that just 6-seconds later Jamie Kehoe countered John Lasala Jr long shot… with even a LONGER shot of his own (from behind his white line) that found its way past Alby.
For the first 14-seconds of Legends Last Stand vs Goodfellas is was like watching a Tennis Match at Wimbledon with a score of 15-All.
A lesson in Focus
In 1984 Mr. Miyagi taught Danielson to “Focus”… For Matty Iannello it wasn’t “Paint the Fence” or “Wax on – Wax Off” (or even) “Sand the Floor… For the Great one is was… “Show me… Score the Goal”
Determined to avoid a perfect losing season record of 0-12… Matty Iannello came focused and locked in on getting his team 2-points in the win column last week against Goodfellas. It was even noted that during warm-ups Matty was in a zone.
Scoring just his 2nd goal… with 6-games left and 11-goals needed to complete his “Smilin Pete Lodi Pink Stick Bag Challenge”…. Otherwise Mr. Miyagi will say “Show me… Lose the Bet”
“Get in the Box”
What was John Colucciello thinking last week after he (A) Fired the ball in the netting from his own Defensive zone (while already shorthanded)… and (B) decided he was not going to serve the penalty. Looking Dazed and confused Cooch just stood there motionless and refusing to “Get in the Box”.
Was the former Centerman waiting on a call reversal from Toronto or a Jury of his peers to acquit him… After what seemed like 3-minutes of him refusing to go… he delayed his sentencing even more by bending over and pretending to tie his shoe. You could have done that while you serving you penalty… Next time just… “Get in the Box”.
We asked Matty for a comment on Cooch’s Delay of Game Penalty… and he said “This is why you don’t draft a Forward to play Defense”
Legends Last Stand post 1st Victory without #1 Goalie in Net
Fill-in Goalie Alby Luise played pretty damn good for the “Joe-less” Legends and actually was a key part in their first win on the season.
For 30-minutes everything was OK for the Legends and Alby. We asked Alby after the game if he felt any pressure of filling in for the Legends and Alby just smiled and pulled a photo from his goalie bag and said “I too have played with the Legends” and showed his cherished photo for all to see.
Who’s the Guy on Matty’s left with an “A” on his shirt? I guess now that stands for “Absent”
First $20… Now $1.00
Alby Luise… It’s not bad enough you cost this reporter $20 two seasons ago… but now add another $1.00 to the growing list of revenue I have lost betting against you.
A simple $1 wager was bet that fill-in goalie (Alby) for Legends Last Stand would choke and cough up their lead. Even with a 4-2 lead I was certain that I was going to double my money… but once again you let this reporter down and I was forced to cough up some dough to the League Director (again)
Neighbor taunting Neighbor
We noticed that former “Pink Stick Bag” challenger Tony Bono’s car parked outside Hockeytown last week. It seems even Tony is getting in on the taunting of his neighbor Matty Iannello.
