Some lucky winner is leaving this weekend with (2) pairs of Bruins tickets … not exactly the hottest ticket in town with the departure of Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, Brandon Carlo, Trent Fredric and Justin Brazeau … and now their postseason is on life support … but there could be history in the making at The Garden like Matty Iannello scoring his 508^th goal, it (could) be a historic game for Alexander Ovechkin, and you (might) be there to witness it and be part of NHL history.

Registration – Finale’

This is your last week to play (if) you didn’t pay your registration in full. 

All captains have been notified of their players and balances due.  Now you truly have to “pay to play” in this town (Hockeytown that is)

Voting – Finale’

This is your last chance to cast a ballot in person … Over 40-players have cast their vote for the 2024-2025 Mylec Player of the Year. 

As in previous years, your vote matters, and with the “rank choice” ballot … it’s always a tight race with the winner not necessarily winning with #1 votes.  All votes matter including the #2 & #3 choices. So, choose wisely.

Players Jamboree – Important

The “2025 Players Jamboree” has become an important event for the league.  We use this jamboree as a fundraising event with proceeds being used for the Paul Correia Fund and for the “Giving back to the players” of the league.

It’s very important that we fill this jamboree draft board as quickly as possible!

It takes over a month to prepare for this event.  We need to have (48) committed players (including 6-goalies), so we can hold a draft, order tee shirts, and prep for the spring tournament for the May 3^rd & 4^th weekend.  So, sign up today!

In the past, Joe Shannon helps with a coordinated donation, Timmy “Tito” Burke has always been a generous sponsor for the game awards, Ray Nickerson has always sponsored the jamboree tee-shirts, going back to when he was a used car salesman at Car Town … and several players and officials donate their time to ensure the jamboree runs smoothly and financially on schedule.

Championship apparel, MVP, MVD, MVG, and the new Directors Choice Award are all handed out over the 2-day event … and last season Mark Stickney won the Spare Rib eating contest donated and prepared by the Over-30 “Pit Master” Dave Guisti.

Captains were asked to reach out to their teams for “Yes” or “No” answers from their players… your cooperation is appreciated as we look to quickly identify those (48) players that want to be in the draft … and those that don’t (or can’t).

“Rosters are Frozen! – Play with what you have”

All team rosters will freeze after this weekend.  This will be your last chance to use any of the available fill-ins… but let’s be honest, you all want Cam Long for the final weekend.  You can probably get him if you tell one or two of your top stars (our half your team) to stay home.

Starting Saturday, March 8^th and going forward into the playoffs.  Teams will play with the rosters they have, and no fill-in players (aka Cam) will be allowed to play (unless, with very limited exceptions ~ by the league director) if a team is drastically understaffed.  

Last week M*A*S*H had only (6) players and was “drastically understaffed” with (2) of their top players Jon Brown and Dave Norton MIA.  They were left with Tommy Gallagher (Stacked Player), Mark Stickney (Old Brownbagger), and Johnny Mastrocola (Half in the bagger)… So, Cam Long was cleared to wear some green “Cam”-o-flage and “fill-in” for two of their top players to help Tommy and provide some offense.

For the record, (yes!) Cam had a natural hat trick… but that wasn’t the reason for the 5-2 loss… Just like the finals for Azores Express it was a bad minute of hockey with M*A*S*H scoring 3-goals in a minute … Tommy Gallagher scoring at 6:52 … followed by Steve Silveira 6:16 and Cam Long at 5:53

But rest assure: For the playoffs, there will be no fill-in roster exemptions granted.  Teams will play with what they have.

Also note: the League Director is not asking captains for their weekly roster count … it’s up to the captains to reach out to him if (they) are “drastically understaffed” and he will help with a comparable “fill-in”. 

Cam will not be filling in for missing player tandems like Pat Pirone & Derrick Power, Donny Maccini & Jim Barber, Kyle McCabe & Mike Roberto, Tim Burke & John Mastrocola, Eddie Chin & Nick Romano, but he could be eligible if Mike Luise, Gary Goodwin, Tony Bono, Ron Aquino and George Medeiros (with a surprising 6-points) are all out for Azores Express.

Portuguese Barricade

Tony Medeiros is the “Portuguese Power” unless you ask Dave Costa as he likes the call him the Portuguese “Bread truck” … now we have the new Portuguese “Barricade” in Steve Silveria. 

Arguably Steve has become one of the league’s premier defensemen and shot-blocker.  Which now it all makes sense when Tony collided with Steve a few weeks ago… it was like a “Bread Truck” hitting a “Barricade”

There are no stats for blocking shots, but if you ask around, guys like Ray Dow will tell you that Steve “blocks everything”.  Not only does Steve block a lot of shots he’s also an offensive threat too… With (1) goal and (1) assist last week, and ironically his (requested?) defensive partner Mike Naczas is also his palindrome (google it) in numbers … #37 & #73

Elite “Marksman”

So, we just read about the Portuguese “Bread truck”, the new Portuguese “Barricade” and now we have a Portuguese “Marksman?”

Looks like Dave Costa didn’t renew his endorsement deal with Vulcan Industries and signed a new lucrative deal with Elite to use their new “Marksman” stick.

Stats show that since Dave used his new “Marksman” he has 2-goals and 5-assists (7-points) in 3-games.  Are those "Marksmen" numbers?  Not sure, but it's a start.  Previously he had 3-goals and 4-assists (7-points) in 7-games while under his Vulcan contract with John Kelleher.

The Vulcan and Marksman are very similar, and both are probably candidates of the new Chinese tariffs.  So make sure you have an extra 20% for China when you purchase either model.

Game On!

Like M*A*S*H for the game prior, Hammertime was shorthanded last week, but not “drastically understaffed” so it was “Game On” as they met the minimum threshold of 7-players and “played with what they had” to a 3-2 loss against Barney & Friends. 

What the game did have, was the “Duggan vs Sheridan” matchup that Rob used to like to brag about, when it comes to shutting “the kid” down like in previous seasons, but Rob’s working on his humility.

This time around “the kid” bested Rob 2-1 … but Rob’s one goal was a “masterful calculated - perfectly executed - self-passing” goal.

After going down 3-1, Rob Sheridan reached into his bag of tricks… Rob (who played the whole game) lined up at center rink for the faceoff after Mike Duggan scored the GWG on the powerplay … he (Rob) won the draw and then proceeded to self-pass off the bench boards to himself and ran right through “Hecklers Wreck-tangle” without sinking or stumbling over his own feet like others have done in the past… and he then proceeded to roof one on Scotty Rosato to make it a 3-2 final.  A great individual effort to come up one-goal shy in the bout.

Most Penalized

There was a total of (9) penalties over the (3) games and the 5:30 game monopolized the weekend with (7) penalties. 

The one thing that captains hate the most are penalties… both the ones called (against) their team … and the blatant ones that don’t get called (for) their team. 

Unfortunately for Hammertime, they lost the game 3-2 and, they lost the penalty war 4-3 with Donny Maccini’s second penalty of the game.  The backbreaker was Mike Duggan burying the GWG while Donny was watching from the sin bin … with just 6-seconds left before he was to be released for good behavior.

Takedown

Barney & Friends newest addition Anthony Petrillo officially replaced “Jersey” Joe Carlton for the second half of the season as “Ant” is now an official “patched” pledge member for the 2025-2026 draft … or as we like to say to the newbies and prospects,  “just get your foot in the door”

Last week he showed the league what the Barney & Friends hat trick is… (1) goal, (1) assist and (1) takedown that would make Mr Miyagi proud.

Anthony perfectly executed a prison move whereas you identify the biggest threat in the yard and then “take him down”.   The biggest player in the yard last week was Rob Sheridan and “Ant” fulfilled his captain’s orders from “Don Angelo” who put out a hit on Rob.

We have a late entry from a field reporter… Turns out Lee Nogler’s slapshot is registered with the ISBHF?

So, for those players (who are not goalies) and have been hit with a Lee slapshot, you can now add the MPH’s to your story at the watercooler about how you got your bruise from the weekend hockey game.

So far Lee has drilled his own teammate Jim Barber in the back… made Tony Mastrocola look like he was auditioning for “Misery 2” with the hobbling scene… and Mike Naczas who bravely steps up to “get that shit outta here”
