Stolen Valor (Again)
Well now we’ve seen it all.., first Referee Mike Naczas commits his own version of “Stolen Valor” when we wears a Top Secret jersey for the WCVB promotional piece.
But the actual League Director one-upped him with his very own knockoff “Championship” style jacket.., sure the jacket doesn’t have the word “Championship” on it.., but one could mistaken from a distance (based on color and style) that Bill Abcunas was a “30th Anniversary Championship Winner”… and we all know he’s not… “Stolen Valor!!”
The Calvary
Top Secret put out a call for reinforcements last week with 5-players MIA.
Jamie Kehoe must have done a lot of begging to get the League Director to allow ReUnited’s Matty Iannello to fill-in for him. Matty is typically one of the blacklisted fill-in players as being “The Great One” comes with some unfair advantages when filling in for a team.
How can Bill Abcunas justify replacing a missing player with the “The Great One”?
Only “The Great One” can fill-in for “The Great One”
The League Director allowed Matty to fill-in under one condition… Jamie had to take Jim Barber too to balance the positives with some negatives.
Jamie also got a highly sought after fill-in defenseman Paul Firicano to help Top Secret give them the 2-1 season series wins against Loose Cannons. Paul is currently in the league as a “fill-in”.., but we expect him to be a top defensive draft pick in the Fall 2022 Draft.
Equality?
Ok… so Last Call has been on a downward spiral for months now. But, some good news came their way as both Dan Broderick and Dave Costa are back in the line-up.
We just have one question regarding last week’s substitutions.
How is it that you’re missing only one defenseman in Bob Snyder.., and you replace him with Paul Firicano and Doug Morand? Bobby is solid defenseman but he’s not 2-for-1 solid.
Someone owes ReUnited an extra point in the standing for that 4-4 OT tie.
Side Note: Doug Morand has filled in a few times this season and looks solid on defense.., he too is another player looking to be added on the Fall 2022 Draft Board.
Senior Shutdown
He has won the most Championships to date (somewhat by default) as he’s been with the league since day 1… and he’s one of the oldest players in the league… but Ed Nigro (at his age) is still proving he can shut down some of the league’s top elite players.
Last week we watch Ed shutdown Lee Nogler a few times and Eddie has proven in the past.., don’t judge a book by its old cover and publishing date.., Ed is the original “Shutdown Defenseman”
It’s just too bad his shot doesn’t even register on the radar gun… Eddie likes to be measured in championships not goals and points like this younger generation.
Rising Tide
“A rising tide lifts all boats”.., who would have thought a tidle wave like Lee Nogler could rise an old tugboat like Gary Goodwin.
“Stonehands” has quietly put together what could be a career year.
Currently at 17-points with 4-games to go… Gary hasn’t posted a 20-point season since 2002-Spring (10g, 11a, 3-GWG) and 2003-Spring (13g, 8a, 1-GWG) seasons when he had an impressive 21-points in those two seasons.
Tell the awards manufacturing company to go ahead and print “Gary Goodwin” on one of the Lucite Awards for this spring’s award ceremonies.
IOC Update
Team Italy lead by Matty Iannello (29-points) has an 11-point lead over their new rivals Team Mongrel.., and an even bigger 18-point lead over the defending champs Team Portugal.
