Over 30 Hockey League

Week of October 14 (Game 1) – After suffering their first loss of the season in overtime, Blues Brothers bounced back with a late game scoring barrage to defeat Maybe One by a 6 – 3 score.  This game marked the return of captain Dominic Defrancisco and his leadership for Blues Brothers.  For Maybe One, playing without their captain Matty Iannello, they stayed in this game, but couldn’t match the up tempo pace and faded in the third period.

In the first period, even though they were missing their entire second line, Blues Brothers carried the play for most of the period and jumped out to an early two-goal lead.  Less than two minutes into the game, John Leite scored out front converting a pass from Dominic to give his team the early lead.  Two minutes later, Dave Costa jumped into the offense and forced a defensive turnover that resulted in a goal.  With their captain’s veteran leadership not present, Maybe One needed to answer and answer quickly.  A minute later, Ray Nickerson did just that as he took passes from Scott Young and Pat Pirone and got his team back into this game.  With less than thirty seconds to play in the period, Pat, in perfect position out front, took advantage of a turnover and banged home the tying goal.

Off the opening face-off only eleven seconds into the second period, Tony Medeiros made a heads up play and scored an unassisted goal to give his team the lead again.  What once looked like a runaway for Blue Brothers had quickly become a close game, even though Blues Brothers was carrying the play and controlling the pace.

The third period proved to be the killer period for Maybe One as Blues Brothers scored three consecutive goals in a span of five minutes that Maybe One had no pushback response to.  Once again it was Tony making an impact as he was set up by the cycling of Dom and John less than thirty seconds in.  This was followed by Tony completing his hat trick a minute later set up by John.  Four minutes later saw John being set up by Tony and Nick Romano.  To round out the scoring, John Mastrocola scored set up by Scott and Ray but the damage had already been done.  Standing out in this game was the all-around play of Dave Costa who was the best player on the rink in this game.

Week of October 14 (Game 2) – With a chance to maintain their place atop the league standings, Trojan Horse came into this game missing their top scorer Shawn Miville and it showed as they got their butts kicked by Fool’s Gold who scored five straight unanswered goals in the first period in routing Trojan Horse, 8 – 3.  Best way to summarize this game was Trojan Horse got spanked!  In the process, there go their dreams of an undefeated season as well.

In the first period, it was all Fool’s Gold as Trojan Horse had no answer, had suspect goaltending, and the defense stood around and watched instead of reacting.  Only three minutes in, Mauro Colucciello scored the game’s first goal on a blast from the right wing.  Four minutes later saw George Medeiros use his speed to score.  A minute later saw John Kelleher convert a pass from Mauro upping the lead to three goals.  In the last minute of the period, Fool’s Gold got goals from John as well as Niko Vramis who was set up front by John and Shawn Wyatt.  It didn’t help that their goalie had his worst game of the season and was fighting the ball all game.

In the second period, Trojan Horse tried making a game of it and pushed back as Cappy scored a power play goal three minutes in.  This was followed by Angelo Deluca scoring on a booming slap shot from out past the white line.  Putting an end to this momentum saw Mauro score his second goal of the game set up by John and George.

"The Dominator" Dominic DeFrancisco is back after a brief stint on the DL for an upper body injury.

Looking somewhat like he didn't miss a beat, Dom was playing his typical aggressive two-way hockey and helping his team to remain perfect 

(Perfect while under his watch).

Blue Brothers only overtime loss was to their nemesis Trojan Horse during the week he and Tony had some official “Portuguese Business” to attend to.., which probably included lots of drinking.  

So.., as far as "The Dominator" is concerned he's still perfect on the season.

Resting On Laurels

"Winning Awards from the Couch" was the name of Jeff Deharo's best-selling goaltending book.., but we have a new "How to stay on top without playing" Author.., as Alby Luise is almost finished with his new book "Resting On Laurels".

While Jeff is getting is A$$ and GAA kicked on a weekly basis... Alby appears to be on cruise control in the top spot by only playing in 60% of his team’s games.

Delight?

Actually it should be spelled "D-Leite" as we watched "The Codfather" taking a bunch of shifts on defense for his team.   Johnny Leite was keeping the ball in and passing all over the place like a natural defenseman.   

With the League's new motto of "Everyone wins an award"... Does last week’s performance on defense for "The Codfather" allow him to be in the running for the "Mike Hollingsworth MVD Award"?

Another New Award Winner

Speaking of awards.., Last week we saw Dave Costa win the new "Axe Gel" Goal of the Week Award... As Dave went all "Donna Summer" (Up-side down...Dave, you turned me.., In-side out.., and round and round) on the Maybe One's "Defenseless Defense" before scoring a beautiful goal against the "Defenseless" Jeff Deharo.   I bet Jeff wishes he had his beach towel on the top of the net for that goal.

While Dave was dipping, deke'n.., and spinning around the 4-guys trying to stop him... Dave's hair never moved an inch thus earning him the "Axe Gel" Goal of the Week Award.

Fall Guy 2 Reboot

Lots of old shows are getting Reboots in Hollywood... “Fuller House, Will & Grace, and Dynasty” just to name a few.  But the biggest anticipation for the new "Fall" Season is in the works as "The Fall Guy 2" has been picked by the Over-30 Network.

Except in the Over-30 Network version, Colt Seavers "The Fall Guy 2" will be played by our own Bob Snyder.

The pilot episode has Bob paying homage by doing spot on impressions of a player that he never met, former "Fall Guy" Steve Oppedisano.

We've been noticing in recent weeks that like his predecessor Steve.., Bob just randomly falls for no apparent reason.  One minute he's running a confusing crossover football route (and we're like WTF is doing?) and the next he's got a close up of the floor.

We reached out to Bob for a comment and he said "I like Spring.., I like Summer..,, I like Winter.., but I like Fall the most".   (Yeah you do, Bob)

Please be advised that Micheal Naczas’ hand injury has been cleared to return to normal hockey activities without any restriction or limitations.

Our concern is no longer Naz’ hand injury.., but we have greater concerns for Mike’s playing weight and talent level.  It also appears from his eye test that he has lost some of his vision due what we medically refer to as.., “Headlight Blindness.”

Please submit this letter to your “Insurance Company” so that Mike cannot sue the Over-30 for his previous unrelated injury, weight and/or vision impairment.
