The self-proclaimed Portuguese Power player of the Over-30 league, Tony definitely can make a case for himself here as one of the most decorated championship players in league history (keep in mind that 4 of these championships came during the “WD [with Dominic] era”). Tony never backed away from taking a shot from anywhere on the rink he didn’t like. His straight ahead, shoot-first, shoot again pass later style has resulted in Tony always finding himself in the top ten scorers each season of the Over-30 league. Tony can play on the edge sometimes but that is due to his desire to play the game hard every shift and wanting his team mates to do the same. Sometimes his Portuguese outbursts get the best of him during games.
Entering his 32 season playing in the league, Tony has won 7 championships, is 10th overall in career points with 525 points and 8th overall in goals with 295 goals scored during his tenure in the league. Tony’s straight ahead physical style can be challenging for a defenseman to handle and has resulted in many goals scored from this style of play. Showing that he can be a good sport, Tony failed in his attempt to pass the Pink Stick Bag Challenge back in the Spring 2015 season as the 5th challenger by not scoring 12 goals in a season, as he only scored 7 goals (where was Dominic saving his Portuguese brother?). The first game next season, Tony was seen literally dressed in pink from head to toe winning the “best dressed acknowledgement” by his peers in the history of this challenge.
Rumors & Facts:
- Tony was nominated for the Over-30 "Rum Chatta" Player of the year Award.., except that fresh new idea hasn't been thought of yet by the fresh new idea committee. Sorry Tony.
- When Tony got his "Portuguese Power" Tattoo.., the tattoo artist asked "Why and Are you sure.., you know this is permanent".., but Tony insisted on his Marketing Brand and hence "Portuguese Power" was introduced into the Over-30 League.
- Hollywood producers were approached by Over-30 League Officials and pitched a movie called "Portuguese Sniper" but after seeing Tony's playoff losing percentage of 77% they decided on making "American Sniper" instead.
- Tony once petitioned the league for an all Portuguese team.., but League Officials said no for fear of too much of a soccer style of play with players kicking the ball for passes and shots.
- Although he hasn't been officially recognized and inducted by the league yet; Tony is only 1 of 5 players currently in the 500 points club.
