Unlike the Dunkin Donuts Player of the Week Award which is given out weekly to the player who “produces” goals, assists, points or shutouts in a game, this award is more typical of the majority of the players in the league… and those shunned by the Assistant League Director.
The Dunkin Donuts Player of the Week Award applies only to a very small percentage of players leaving the majority (and those blacklisted) players with no chance at winning this award. The Lunch Pail Gang Award attempts to balance out this discrimination and injustice.

WEEK # 15 (12-14-2013)
The final regular season weekly winner of the Lunch Pail Gang Award is Rick Cassano of Cuckoo's Nest. Ricky played his best game of the season in helping his team head into the playoffs riding a three game winning streak. Scoring 2 goals on six shots taken, and setting up two other goals, Ricky was flying around the rink all game long. Even though his team scored a season high nine goals in this game, Ricky's individual play and hustle stood out.

WEEK # 14 (12-7-2013)
The winner of week 14's Lunch Pail Gang Award winner is Mike Hollingsworth of Blame The Girl . Mike played major minutes for his short-handed team, assisted on two goals, blocked a few shots and used his stick like a magician uses his wand to keep the ball in the offensive zone and prevent any breakouts. Mike's continuous defensive efforts this season have contributed to Blame The Girl's stingy goals against numbers posted in the league standings.

WEEK # 13 (11-30-2013)
It is December so we just had to have a Papa Smurf acknowledgement. With that said, week 13's Lunch Pail Gang Award is Umberto Biancardi of the Golden Oldies. Umberto played a major role in leading the Golden Oldies to their first victory of the season by scoring a Krejci-esh goal and assisting on two others. Long known for his dynamic breakaway speed, Umberto also displayed those playmaker hands, second only to Matty I's in his breakout performance of the season.

WEEK # 12 (11-23-2013)
Week 12 Lunch Pail Gang Award is Niko Vramis. Niko played his best and most complete game so far this season in setting up three goals, taking four shots on net, stayed focused all game long, played solid position, and making a big jump up in the league leaders in scoring. Even though he did try to score on a clean breakaway with his team up two goals and under ten seconds left to play, we won't hold such a "punk move" against him. Coincidentally, Niko's improved play in the last four games has had a direct impact in his team winning all four games, with Niko scoring 1-goal and adding 5-assists during this streak.

WEEK # 11 (11-16-2013)
"Let me speak on this", Week 11's Lunch Pail Gang Award is Michael Naczas. Naz had a breakout game and perhaps his best ever performance in the Over-30 league as he scored 1-goal, added 2-assits, had a plus 4 rating, recored 2 shots on net, blocked multiple shots, and personally shut down on defense the Holy Trinity combination of Matty Iannello- Ray Nickerson- Joe Shannon. In addition, Naz sent notice to Dan Broderick in his personal head-to-head scoring competition, which is now tied, that he is back and can taste that clam plate, large roast beef sandwaich and large coke from Kelly's.

WEEK # 10 (11-9-2013)
Week 10 Lunch Pail Gang Award is Matty Iannello. After being snubbed a few times in the voting for weekly player of the week award this season, recognition has finally been given to Matty Iannello of Cuckoo's Nest. Quiet for most of the game, Matty did what all team leaders do and stepped up in crunch time late in his game, scoring 2-goals in twenty-five seconds to give his team their first lead, then set up the game winning goal with three seconds to play, capping off a comeback victory! Matty scored his first goal from the point playing defense, then shifted up front to score again, took 6 shots on net set up multiple scoring opportunities with his passing skills.

WEEK # 9 (11-2-2013)
Week 9's Lunch Pail Gang Award is John Kelleher of the Golden Oldies who continues to play hard every shift regardless of the score and consistently factors into his team's offense. John assisted on a goal, shifted effortlessly into playing center or wing, as well as filled in on defense when needed. He also had three shots on net in playing a lot of minutes for his short handed team. As his team has struggled to win this season, John has consistently showed up to give everything he has in effort to help his team move up in the standings (as evidenced by seeing his name atop the leading scores of the over-30 league). A quiet leader who lets his actions speak for themself, John has been his team's MVP this season.

The winner of week 8's Lunch Pail Gang Award is Pat Pirone of White Lightning as he finally showed up after six weeks to make an impact in the offense rather than watching from the sidelines. Pat played a strong power forward game in helping to lead his White Lightning team to their first win of the season. Pat scored 2 goals in the third period (on both his shots taken in the period a minute and a half apart) when they mattered late in the game, to break open a close game. Pat's power game proved too just much for the defense of the oppostion to handle, as Pat found himself setting up shop at the crease. In addition to his 2-goals, Pat also took a penalty (no surpise there) and just missed out on recording an Al Sumner hat trick (a goal, an assist and a penalty).

WEEK # 7 (10-19-13)
This week's Lunch Pail Gang Award winner is Mike Delorey of the Shooting Stars is having himself quite a surprising season. Mike scored his first goal of the season on a bomb from the point resulting in the back breaking insurance goal scored late in the game. Mike also took 5 shots on net, made some key breakout passes deep in his zone, and is now tied for the scoring lead among defensemen. Mike has been playing steady defense all season long and stepping up his game for the Shooting Stars. It was just a matter of time before he received this past due recognition of winning this award.

WEEK # 6 (10-12-13)
This week's Lunch Pail Gang Award winner is Sergio Costa of the Shooting Stars. Sergio had a breakout performance in his game, scoring 1-goal, assisting on a key third period goal, took four shots on net and made some heads up passes setting up team mates for scoring chances. Sergio's play was a catalyst, along with the play of his second line as they broke open a close game in the third period, helping their team in scoring three times. This could be the game that turns Sergio's season around and finally puts an end to all the taunting he has received from his former Portuguese Power Gang players!

WEEK # 5 (10-05-13)
Perhaps this announcement finally gets the winner of The Lunch Pail Gang Award the proper respect that this individual deserves. Colleen Sedille of Blame the Girl is this week’s winner. Maybe now they will officially change that team name from Blame the Girl to Blame the Guys as Colleen continues to prove that being the only girl player in the Over-30 league is no issue! Colleen continues to impress every week playing consistent defense and keeping her plus/minus solidly on the plus side. Colleen scored her team’s first goal of the game last week from the right point which held up as the game winner. She took 3 shots on net with one of them finding the back of the net. Flutter ball or not, a goal is still a goal.

| WEEK # 4 Lunch Pail Gang Player Of The Week
This week's winner is Mike Fleming of Cuckoo's Nest. Mike didn't score any points in his game or was a threat offensivle, even though he had four shots on net. However, he was a major factor on defense this past week in helping his team win their second straight game. Playing with only three defensemen, Mike palyed significant minutes, controlled his defensive zone throughout the game with tape to tape breakout passes, blocked multiple shots and made sure that the ball was constantly "all the way down" in the other team's end. Together with Joe Shannon who also won this week's Dunkin Donut award are a tough paring to beat.
|
| Week 3’s Lunch Pail Gang Award winner is Big Mike Surette of White Lightning. Usually the term “big” is a reference to Mike’s large muscular frame. However, this past week it serves as a reference to his scoring skills as he came up big for his team. Showcasing his scoring skills, Mike helped his team comeback from a three goal deficit halfway through the game, scoring his first goal late in the second period and capping off the comeback by scoring with twelve seconds to play in the game. Just as important, Mike played a second consecutive game without planting his size 17 sneakers on an opposing player’s stick blade and crushing it.
|
| WEEK # 2 (9-14-13)
Playing in his first game this season, defenseman Jamie Kehoe of the Shooting Stars volunteered to move up and play forward for his team that was missing forwards. Jamie filled in at center and wing and finished with 6 shots on net, made some creative passes and most importantly scored the tying goal with 7 seconds left to play in the game to help his team complete their miraculous comeback when they scored four goals in the third period.

| Week #1 (9-7-13)
It seems fitting that the inaugural winner of the newly established Over-30 league’s 5 Guys - Lunch Pail Gang award, given to that one player’s overall contribution to his team, even if it doesn’t show up on the score sheet, was awarded to Gary Goodwin. Long known as one of the Over-30 league’s blue collar hardest working players, Gary’s overall performance on the rink, played a significant role in leading his short-handed Blame the Girl team to a 5-1 victory. Gary’s hustle all over the rink in all three zones, his passing ability resulting in his recording of an assist, his positional play especially in his defensive zone resulting in no goals scored against his team, and his better than average face-off winning percentage contributed to an overall dominating performance by his team. For one game at least, Gary did not have to rely on his Stone hands to score a goal or run someone over to get to the ball like a runaway freight train in order to make his presence felt during a game.

Call it the Blue Collar Award… call it the Player of the Week 1st Runner-up Award… or call it the Over-30 non-Superstar Award. Call it anything you like, but, don’t disrespect this award as it applies to more than 2/3’s of the players in the Over-30 league.
The Lunch Pail Gang Award, created by the League Director (Finally a fresh idea on his own.., which is really not because he stole and rehashed the concept from Naz), will be given out weekly to one player who makes a noticeable impact on his team’s victory.
This impact player might not have had a “Player of the Week” points performance, but rather, this award will look at the players overall contribution in a game even if it doesn’t show up on the score sheet.
Some factors that will be taken into consideration will be hustle, blocked shots, passing, positioning, working the corners, going into the dirty areas, making those key saves, showing enthusiasm for the game being played, making a heads-up play, controlling the ball, staying into the game regardless of the score. It’s a general overall impact to his team’s victory.
Essentially, it will be judged on all the intangible little things that are done during a game, as those things can get easily overlooked by other players who scored more goals or assists, (or posted a shutout). The reward for your recognized efforts is the new Lunch Pail Gang Award (photo opts and web recognition) along with a $10 gift card to Five Guys.
For all of those players who always thought they could never get recognized for doing the simple things and playing the game the right way, your time has finally come!
Disclaimer: If you are allergic to Peanuts… you are not eligible to win this award as Five Guys is VERY peanut friendly. So please let you Captains know of any Peanut allergies before you attempt to win the award this season. Over-30 Hockey League is also not liable for any weight gain or cheeseburger related injuries that result from eating at a Five Guys.
