4:30 - Gold Miners vs Last Call |
Week of October 9 (Game 1) – In a defensive low scoring game played between two evenly match teams, Last Call got a lucky break late in the game, to pull out a hard-fought victory over Gold Miners by the score of 2 – 1. With their best defenseman Dave Costa not playing, the rest of the defense for Last Call stepped up.
After a back and forth scoreless first period, Last Call scored the game’s first goal late in the second period when John Carey jumped into the offense, set up by the passing of Gino Tammaro and Chris Ducharme.
Halfway through the third period, Cappy jumped up to play wing and took advantage of the set up by Joe Carlton and Shawn Mulcahy to tie the game.
With the game heading to overtime with two minutes to play, John’s shot on net deflected off Gino at the side of the net past the surprised goalie. Gino’s goal was his eighth of the young season, to lead all goal scorers this season.
This game featured both goalies Sandra Glista and Jeff Deharo making timely saves and keeping this a close game.

5:30 - Top Secret vs Omerta |
Week of October 9 (Game 2) – In five of their first six games played this season, Top Secret has played short-handed, missing at least three players. Yet, they continue to compete with the players they have to remain near the top of the league standings. After jumping out to a three-goal lead, Top Secret held on for a close 4 – 3 win over Omerta.
Joe Shannon looked and played like the Joe Shannon of the past, scoring 2-goals off bombs that were perfectly placed from the point, while also setting up the game winning goal.
Teammate Matt Farrell also had an impact game on offense, scoring early in the third, while setting up his team’s first two goals. Jamie Kehoe continues to lead the way on defense by contributing in the offense as he set up two goals to increase his lead amongst all defensemen in scoring.
For Omerta, they got outplayed for most of this game and couldn’t generate any sustained offense. However, Manny Nunes stepped up to lead his team on offense with 1-goal and 1-assist. Some late game momentum was sparked by an unlikely goal scorer, as Ed Nigro scored his first goal since the winter 2019 season.

6:30 - Loose Cannons vs ReUnited |
Week of October 9 (Game 3) – Yes, they have now lost six games in a row; yes, they continue to give up key goals by the other team late in the game. But this reporter is going on the record saying that ReUnited will start winning games sooner than later, as they are about to turn their season around. Twice Loose Cannons came back from one goal deficits to pull out a late win by the score of 4 – 3. With the win, Loose Cannons extended their unbeaten streak to four games.
The hero for Loose Cannons was Nick Doherty. Nick usually generates scoring chances and goals off breakaways by using his off to the races speed. However, his game winning goal resulted off a defensive turnover that Nick quickly converted. Nick also scored a late second period goal tying the game.
Dave Parquette had a solid game on offense, scoring 1-goal and setting up Nick’s game winner.
The first line for ReUnited played their best game so far this season, and is starting to gel as a line, factoring on every goal they scored. Rich Pelletier scored 2-goals in the first period and set up another. Ray Nickerson also had three points, with 1-goal and 2-assists. Lastly, Matty Iannello, having quite a scoring resurgence and hovering near the scoring leaders (again), set up his team’s first two goals.

Honored Guests
It was good to see John Mayne, Rick Breau, Eric Lefevbre and the infamous Pete Walters for this week’s ceremonial faceoffs.
John Mayne is the brother of Bill Mayne (Bill Mayne Memorial Award)
Rick Breau (All-time Ranking #90) played 16-seasons (120-points, 40-goals, 80-assists) with (1) championship with the Bushwackers.
Pete Walters played only one season in 1994 and recoded only (1-assist).., but Pete’s claim to fame is his many years of coaching the North Shore Pirates to several Hockeytown Championships and refereeing up at Hockeytown.
Eric Lefevbre (All-time Ranking #52) played 30-seasons (240-points, 90-goals, 150-assists) with (5) championships

Not Ticky – No Laundry
Bob Snyder upped the anti on returning borrowed league jerseys. For first time in 30-years a player returned a borrowed jersey clean and.., on a hanger?
We’re not sure if Bob washed it himself or had it dry cleaned?
Way to go Bob… set the bar high for future players who forget their jersey.
|
Cheeeeese!
We know Assistant League Director Mike Naczas takes the entire award winning photos.., but Jeff Deharo is taking it to a new level. Jeff’s was trying to whoooo the Statler & Waldorf (Best Play) Judges.., by posing extra-long during a routine glove save.., and hoping Naz would take a live action photo for the award.
In case you missed Jeff’s “glove save pose”… it reminded us of another famous pose;
| |
Why?
We’re curious.., so we ask. Why does Jeff Deharo leave his goalie pads on after his game is over? He used to be famous for walking around shirtless with a towel draped over his shoulders… now its pads for 30-minutes (or more)
The games over.., you lost.., we all know you’re the goalie. The only thing we can think of is your trying to up your Save % by blocking all the empties from going into the trash barrel at Scoreboards Pub.
At least that way you’re ahead of the “Trash Barrel” in the goalie standings just in case ReUnited decides to dress the barrel for a game. Dusted
Gino Tammaro dusted Colleen O’Connell up the side boards last week as he blew by that little old lady on her way to church.., while he was on his way to a beautiful top corner GWG.
Colleen tried to slow Gino down by offering him some butterscotch and ribbon candy while telling him stories about “back in my day”… but Gino had only one thing in mind scoring on goaltender Jeff Deharo (who didn’t pose after that top corner pick).
New Diagnosis
We are all familiar with “Picardi-itis” which is the diagnosis you get when you are trying to rack up points during the final minutes of a blowout game. Both Nick Doherty and Manny Nunes had a bout with “Picardi-it is” this season.
There is a new variant (very contagious).., it called “Cassano-ing”
“Cassano-ing” is when you beg for points.., it’s like panhandling but without the cup, sign and smell.
Your Witness
Last week Rick Cassano retained Gino Tammaro as counsel to represent and testify on his behalf for an assist that was credited to teammate John Carey.
|
The jury hasn’t reached a verdict on Ricky’s assist.., but if the “Cassano-ing” continues he’ll be held in contempt of court and out of order.
|
Get it?
Jon Picard there is only one thing we can say about you…
|
Get it? You’re the one out of order arguing over such a minuscule offside call.
Shame on you for berating the brotherhood of stripes.., where do you live at #4 Glasshouse Ave, in Perfection MA 0U812.
It was a simple call that was blown way out of proportion.., and something your Captain was addressing. There was no need to get yourself ejected.
New Sheriff
Shortly after Jon Picard was tossed from the game for a bench minor… Manny Nunes was sent to the sin bin for unsportsmanlike conduct (slamming the door)
The league’s front office has been instructed to lay down the law.., get unruly players under control, quite the constant complainers, and keep the games rolling along.
The season of “WOW” continues as there’s a new sheriff in town and he’s not taking any shit (from anyone)… you’ve been warned!
|
Portuguese Cycle
It was a thing of beauty watching the ‘Portuguese Cycle” that was going on down low in the corner for Omerta’s 1st goal of the game.
Manny Nunes, George Medeiros and Paul Sequeira were working the cycle perfectly (or accidentally) before Paul finally ended the cycle and buried one on goaltender Sean Roach.
The Italians (Gino Tammaro, Rick Cassano & Angelo De Luca) still hold a 2-point lead over their Portuguese rivals… which makes sense on why Rick was “Cassano-ing” for the extra assist to increase their lead to 3-points.
After 6-games:

Gino Tammaro (13), Rick Cassano (9) Angelo De Luca (7) |
|
|
|
Manny Nunes (11), Paul Sequeira (9) George Medeiros (7) |

Chasing Nothing
It’s a shame that Top Secret (fill-in) defenseman Joe Shannon is out there scoring goals for nothing. None of his goals count towards chasing the new goals leader Matty Iannello (513-goals)… but since we like to stir the pot here at the Forum we’ll update you with Joe’s “unofficial” total as he has (507) official goals along with (2) “fill-in” goals for (509-goals).
Last week Joe had (2) of his patterned slap shot goals… and it might have even been a hat trick night if Joe didn’t flub an embarrassing ugly shot from the point. But Joe “The Canteen Man” gets a pass because, like Dan Broderick.., Joe is a legend (too) and legends get free passes for their screw-ups.
After 6-games:
Matty Iannello – (513) official goals
Joe Shannon – (509) unofficial goals
And no… Mylec will not be notified if Joe “unofficially” passes Matty at any point during the season.
Who will it be?
ReUnited had dropped their 6th straight game to remain winless on the season.
Last week they came within 1:24 seconds of a potential point with a 3-3 tie. But once again they invent a new way to lose.
We actually thought that the “Ice Cold” ReUnited team was going to beat the “Red Hot” league leaders… as the Loose Cannons, who gave up just 1-goal in their last (3) games found themselves down 3-2 late in the 2nd period. That is until Nick Doherty scored the game tying and eventually game winning goals to keep ReUnited on ice.
This team reminds us of the 2019 Spring Season team of Coaches Corner who didn’t win a game until the last week (Week #15) and finished the season 1-7-2. Does anyone remember who that games hero was?
Answer: Ray Dow who scored the GWG with just 2:50 left to play in the 3rd.
The question is… As we start the second rotation through the teams.., Who is going to be the first team that loses to ReUnited .., or will they finish the second go-around with a record of 0-10?
