Screwed or Not Screwed?
Everyone August when the teams start to get leaked out by the captains.., it's that time of the year when a fair number of Over-30 Players feel like they got "Screwed" of if you Ray Nickerson (you got "FU&#ED" by Billy - Again!!).
Now it's time to review which teams are actually "Screwed" or "Not Screwed"
Mixed Nuts.., this team it's all going to come down to Sean Roach. If Sean has a great season then this team will be fine and will easily make the playoffs.
Ron "The Flying Hawaiian" Aquino had a great productive summer in the MISI League.., and Dave Costa is having a "Can't Lose in 2018" type of year.
Plus Matty Iannello has had a weight lifted of his shoulders and transferred to Dominic DeFrancisco.
Mixed Nuts: "Not Screwed"
Gang Green.., this is a going to be a tough season for Captain Dominic DeFrancisco.
He's own his own without the Portuguese Brotherhood and he has a few players that are prone to either having a really good season or a just plain awful season (and they know who they are).
For Gang Green to make the playoffs they are going to have to gel as a team and all of them collectively have to have a good season, otherwise it will be an early Christmas break for them. Until we see a few wins and team chemistry...
Gang Green: "Screwed”
There's a herd of Rhino's gearing up for a new season.., and I'm making the prediction early.., look for them to top the standings this season.
Goalie Scotty Rosato has been playing great all summer.., plus any time your #1 Draft Pick is Shawn Miville your team will be ok.
Little George Medeiros is coming off the MISI League as the first runner up in the MVP voting and earning a new nickname for the Over-30 League.., look for George "The Mosquito" Medeiros to be flying all off the dek this fall and buzzing around causing havoc.., because George is probably one of the most tenacious players that will come ready to play this season.
The only question we have is will Shawn Miville continue his weekly team spirit award.., and what will it be?
Rhino's: "Not Screwed"
Much like the contestants on Master Chef.., Black Hole Captain Jim Barber has been given a "Mystery Box Challenge" whereas he's giving a mixed box of ransom ingredients and needs to come up with a recipe for success.
Early predictions for the front office expect Matt Farrell to be in the running for the League Leader.., but it's going to take a total team effort to win enough games and not be eliminated from the playoffs.
Jim's challenge is going to be to keep the personalities and any negativity on the team in check.., and somehow figure out how to pull a rabbit out of a hat.
Pre-Season Injury reports also have Rick Cassano on the 6-week DL.., so we are concluding that;
Black Hole: "Screwed”
Anytime you have a Dek Hockey Legend and Hall of Fame Inductee as your Captain.., you’re going to be playing for someone who can teach you how to win and also recount how and why you lost..., Coach's Corner Captain Dan Broderick is that guy.
Dan has been dealt many challenging teams over the last few seasons.., and can recall each and every season as to why they lost and didn't make the playoffs.., but this season isn't going to be one of them.
We fully expect Coach's Corner to make the playoffs as there is a lot of hidden and under the radar talent that will quietly and collectively help them make the playoffs.
However; the one BIG variable and unknown that could affect the team (positively or negatively) is the health and play of Goaltender David Guisti. Yet to play a whole season.., Dave needs to have the same start he did 2-seasons ago when he went on a shutout tear.., but even with that variable;
Coach's Corner: "Not Screwed"
