Game Results and Player(s) of the Week
|
4:30 - Loose Cannons vs Top Secert |
Week of October 16 (Game 1) – And Loose Cannons continues to roll! Going into the third period down a goal, Loose Cannons scored four straight goals in six and a half minutes to pull away from Top Secret by a 5 – 3 score.
Three players stood out for Loose Cannons in their comeback victory. Jason Carrien, Nick Doherty and Dave Wilson.
Matt Farrell was the impact player for his Top Secret team, factoring in on every goal they scored, including the highlight goal of the season tying this game when Matt won the left faceoff in his own defensive zone, stickhandled around the winger, split the defensemen, then beat the goalie to the ball and moving around him to score into an open net.
Jason sparked the comeback and changed this game’s momentum by setting up the tying goal early in the third period, then less than two minutes later scored the go-ahead goal on a bomb of a slapshot from the left point.
Nick Doherty, who set up the game’s first goal, followed up that with an assist on Jason’s goal then scored the insurance goal with just two minutes to play.
Dave Wilson, hustling the entire game, was rewarded by scoring both of his goals in that four-goal scoring outburst.

5:30 - ReUnited vs Last Call |
Week of October 16 (Game 2) – FINALLY that damn monkey is off the backs of ReUnited as they put an end to their team’s 6-game losing streak, as they routed Last Call and pitched a 5 – 0 shutout. Last Call continues to struggle scoring goals, scoring only 5-goals in its last five games.
Finally, goalie Scott Rosato, who has been turning his game around, was rewarded with a solid complete game, stopping all 29 shots thrown at him to record his first shutout of the season. Complimenting Scott was the overall solid defensive play of Rob Valley, Steve Iacoviello and Mike Duggan.
Matty Iannello, showing a rejuvenation in his game, led the way with 1-goal and 2-assists and is back near the top of the leading scorers list.
Ray Nickerson kept pace in the offense also scoring 1-goal and setting up two other goals.
Captain Jim Barber finally found his long dormant goal scoring touch, as he scored 2-goals to join into the offensive fireworks.
Now that ReUnited has gotten rid of that damn monkey, can they turn their season around and start putting some wins together. The last few games have shown that they are right there.

6:30 - Gold Miners vs Omerta |
Week of October 16 (Game 3) – One team came to play, while the other team never showed up and paid the price for that. Omerta was flying all game, making Gold Miners look slow and old in the process, as they won in a blowout, by the lopsided score of 7 – 2. For Gold Miners, the loss was their third in a row.
Omerta started off quickly by scoring three goals in the first period, followed by another three goals in the second period that Gold Miners never could recover from. This game was over early in the second period.
The combination of Pedro Fontes and Manny Nunes was lethal as they each factored in on five of the seven goals their team scored with 2-goals and 3-assists each. Both players were the key players on offense for Omerta.
Pic, moving back to defense, was a key strategy move for Omerta, as his rink awareness, ball control and speed showcased his playing style that led to setting up three goals.
Paul Sequeira had a quiet game on offense, scoring 1-goal and setting up another, but, his passing game was on full display that generated multiple scoring chances for his team.
We wish we could say something positive for Gold Miners but they looked tired all game, were chasing the play the entire game and too many times got caught standing flatfooted in outmanned scoring situations.

Power vs Skill
The two young guns in the league went head-to-head Matty Farrell’s (offense) vs Jason Carrien’s (defense) and it wasn’t disappointing as both players had 2-goals and an assist. The only question we’re left pondering is.., it better to have more power or more skill?
Like Duracell’s debate of “Extra Life vs Extra Power” Jason exhibited “more power” with two bombs from the point.., while Matt exhibited “more skill” as he carved through the Top Secret defense for two beautiful goals.
Someone that had both (back in the day) was definitely Joe Shannon. Youngsters
Speaking of Joe Shannon shame on you.., what are thinking dangling the ball in front of one of the leagues kids. You looked like John Colucciello “Fiddling and Diddling” and uncertain what to do with the ball.., that’s when the youngster Nick Doherty pounced on you (stole the ball) and proceeded to score on Sean Roach. The scoring sheet says #93 “unassisted”.., but you definitely should have been credited for an assist on that senior moment of a play.
Glory Days
While we are on the topic of former glory legends.., Doug Sedille was looking like the “Dougie of old” and not the “Dougie that’s old” as he was trying to set goal-after-goal that these kids today just whiffed on them. Doug should have had 3-more assists if his teammates buried his passes. Playing with Doug is like playing with Matty Iannello.., “expect the unexpected”. Don’t get caught up watching their playmaking skills.., be ready for highly skilled pass. No Points For You!
Just like the soup Nazi… “No Points for you!.., you come back 1-week.”
Oh the humanity.., as last week Scotty Rosato shut out those garlic loving Italians as Gino Tammaro, Ricky Cassano and Angelo De Luca all dipped a giant Jewish bagel “O” in their olive oil and spices.., while their neighbors to the west in Portugal went crazy on the game sheet. Portuguese Collusion
We were left wondering if the Portuguese Gold Miners willingly laid down on a 7-2 loss to help their fellow countryman on Omertà as Paul Sequeira, George Medeiros, Manny Nunes posted up 9-points and take the lead over the Italians Rumor has it that the Italian’s are asking newly made man Ray Dow for a meeting with the Don to put a hit out on Jeff Deharo who they think intentionally stunk last week.

Jersey Check
It was good to see Jake Brum in the lodge seating last week.., that means he’s getting closer to the actual crease.
We asked Jake why he came up.., and he said “to check on his jersey and see how it looks in net”. Don’t worry Jake.., you’re jersey is fine. Despite Sandra Glistalooking like a prom queen in XXXXL dress.., your jersey is actually putting up pretty good numbers with Sandra in it.

2-points
“ReUnited and it feel so good..,” It only took 7-weeks to post their first win and 2-points to end their quest for 0-15.., as ReUnited blew out Last Call 5-0. We predicted it in the weekly league email that it was only a matter of time before ReUnited figured it out and broke the losing streak. We asked the team management for their comments on their first win. Captain Jim Barber credits his goaltender Scotty Rosato for coming up big and posting a shutout to the “Itailan offense”.., while Assist Captain Matty Iannello said “we played good and we were missing some key players”.
If should also be noted that Niko Vramis, Mike Surette, Mike Delorey and Derrick Power are still officially winless. Time to step up and help earn your team another "W". MVB Race
Another piece of good news is Jeff Deharo can get undressed quicker after his game doesn’t have to compete with the barrel for MVB and best save percentage.
With Scotty Rosato’s first win of the season (and a shutout) there is no plan to dress the barrel in the immediate future.., but ReUnited is not dropping the barrel from their practice squad just in case last week was a fluke. ReUnited doesn’t want any other team claiming the barrel off the waiver wire.
