One of the premier defensemen to ever play in the Over-30 league, Ray is one of the best at “reading the play” in front of him and making that all important first pass out of his defensive zone to an open team mate. Ray is that franchise defensemen that you can build a team’s defense around, as he never panics on the rink, maintaining his composure and leading by example. Dubbed the Real #5(a), Ray has always developed and continuously improved his game by watching and learning from the game’s great defensemen (the Real number 5’s), then applying what he has learned on the rink. Ray’s deadly slap shot from the point is a game changer and usually finds the back of the net!
Now playing in his 30th season, Ray aka “Spanks” has been slowed by nagging injuries over the years, but, you would never notice, as he continues to play through them and compete at a top level. In 2016, Ray completed the Holy Trinity for local Dekhockey regional play as he won the Spring 2016 Over-30 championship, the Cambridge Sunday league with the yellow team, and the Leominster Over-40 championship. In addition, perhaps the greatest achievement that Ray has won while playing in the Over-30 league was the inaugural Mike Hollingsworth Most Valuable Defenseman award in the Spring 2016 season.
