Paul Correia Jamboree

The Over-30 Hockey League celebrated its return to the season ending Jamboree with the “2022 Nicolas Shannon Memorial Jamboree”.  Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors it was a huge success and a fun way to end the season.

This season we are planning on hosting a “Paul Correia Celebration Jamboree" using the same 4-on-4 format.

Prior to the Spring Jamboree the Over-30 League will be hosting a series of fundraisers that will be led by Paul's cousin Tony Medeiros along with the help from the Over-30 Support Staff.

Some of the ideas for fundraising events will include a Corn Hole Tournament (hosted at Hockeytown).., a Golf Tournament (hosted at Billerica CC).., and a potential Bowling Night (TBD).., and of course various raffles and prizes to support these events.

To kick off the fundraising efforts, Over-30 League Director Bill Abcunas is going to donate and raffle off a “FREE” 2023 Spring Season to one lucky winner.  More details to follow… 

Breaking News

The Over-30 League Director Bill Abcunas has ordered the placement of Captain’s Mutiny Goalie Joe “Guido” Conary on indefinite goaltender waivers.  Joe had a tough 0-8 start with a 5.50 GAA and a .809 save percentage.  Joe has not been removed from the league and instead reassigned as a fill-in forward for the 2023 Spring Season which will be used as an assessment assignment for the 2023-2024 Over-30 Draft Board.

Dale McIssac (Reining 2022 MISI MVP) will fill the vacate spot in the crease for the remainder of this season (and next).  Captain’s Mutiny will finish this season (including the playoffs) with what they have as rosters are now closed.  In-turn, they will get a first round draft pick for the 2023 Spring Season.

IR Updates

Rumor has it that the Roadrunners will lose a marquee player Mike Duggan for a few weeks with an undisclosed lower body injury.  We hear it’s the same injury that Mac Jones suffered (High Ankle Sprain) and the League’s front office has already told Captian Dominic DeFrancisco that Bailey Zappe is not available to replace Mike.  So they won’t be getting “Zapped!”… More like they got “FU@#ED!”

Lee Nogler has been MIA for the past few weeks and is slated to miss this week with a “lower body” injury.  Although Devils Disciples Captain Ray Dow is saddened by the loss.., every other defenseman and goaltenders are breathing a sigh of relief that they don’t have to face Lee’s cannon. 

But we ask; what scarier… Lee’s “Slapshot” or George Medeiros’ “Unrelenting Will” to never quit on plays?

Season Enders: Paul Firicano is still on extended IR with a “Groin Injury”.., Steve Silveira is also trying to get back to playing condition.  We hear they are targeting the 2023 Spring Season. 

Sleepy Joe

All this time we thought former President Donald Trump was talking about Joe Biden when he coined the phrase “Sleepy Joe”.

There has always been a League debate on who is “The Real #5”… is it the legend Dan Broderick, the goon Bill Abcunas, the understudy Joe Shannon or the wannabe Ray Dow.  That debate will live on.., but there is no debate on who’s “The Real Sleepy Joe”

Shattered

Gary Goodwin is on pace to back up his claim of not only to pass his 6-goal challenge.., but to “Shatter it” with 10-goals. 

Gary is right in the middle with 8-goals and 4-games to go.., he currently 2-goals (past) his challenge and 2-goals from “Shattering it”

Role Reversal

If you had told me at the beginning of the season that by Week #12 that Gary Goodwin would have 8-goals and 3-assists and his Captain Dominic DeFrancisco would have 3-goals and 9-assists.., then I would have suggested you seek medical help because you are crazy.

Yet here we are and that statement is a reality.., “Stonehands” is current in second place for team scoring goals behind Mike Duggan’s 12-goals.  With Mike on IR can Gary make a run for the top spot?

Retaliation

Recently we have been seeing an uptick in “Retaliation” penalties with the offending retaliating player bitching all the way to the penalty box about the “non-call” that they retaliated against.

You know the referees have a reputation for missing calls, goals and assists.., but what they don’t miss is a blatant retaliation penalty out of frustration.  So if you get caught remember this;

See it’s only a quick minute… so stop your bitching and get in the box quietly like Spongebob and Patrick.

Tripping?

Speaking of Referees missing calls.., we all got a chuckle when “Head Referee”.., “Numero Uno”.., the “Zebra King”.., Jon Picard missed a tripping call on himself as he landed flat on his face to the cheers and jeers on the numerous onlookers.

So see.., even the Referees miss calls on themselves.

Winner-Winner

“Winner-Winner… just enough for a chicken dinner.”

We have our largest weekly award winner of this season so far.  We just learned that John Kelleher hit on his scratch ticket for $20 bucks from Week #8.  We’re still waiting for the elusive big hit for $100, $500 or a mini jackpot.  So until then, congrats Johnny… it’s nice to see the old veterans winning.

Don’t forget if you do hit big on a ticket make sure you let the Award Presenter and ALD Mike Naczas know.., No, he doesn’t take taxes, tips, or a cut of the winnings.., we just want to recognize the hit in the media.

Limetime Penalty

Congratulation Steve Medeiros on tying the knot and welcome to a lifetime of penalties.

We’re just curious if he walk down the aisle.., or slide down it.., and did he cut the cake.., or slash it?

Note: Tony Medeiros is classified as a “Rookie” Defenseman and Mike Delorey as a “Rookie” forward because this is the first time they were drafted as those positional players.

Goalie Points: 2-points for a win.., 5-points for a shutout.., and -1 for a loss.

We know the Seasoned Veterans are going to run away with it.., but here’s what we’re watching; Can the The Rookies beat the Old Farts?  Can the Young Guns beat the Seasoned Veterans?  Can the Old Farts beat anyone?
