Mike Cresta
The winner of the Five Guys weekly award is Mike Cresta of the Vulcan Grip.
Being a rookie has its challenges playing in the Over-30 league, as well as being a blue-collar player. These players efforts can typically get overlooked.
Mike played one of his better games as he set up a goal early in his game, looked more comfortable in the offensive zone, generating 5 shots.
Mike’s second period pass from behind the net to a team mate out front through traffic was the type of pass that the stars players make in the league.

Joe Shannon
The winner of the weekly AARP award is Joe Shannon of the Roadrunners.
With his short-handed and playing with only three defensemen, Joe played a lot of minutes and took over the quarterback role for his team on defense. Joe set up his team’s first goal.
His rink awareness, positioning and leadership were clearly evident. What also stood out was how effortlessly Joe did all the little things playing defense, including using his stick to constantly get in the way to break up any scoring chances. It was a classic example of anticipating the play and outthinking his opponent.

Mike Delorey
The winner of the Five Guys weekly award is Mike Delorey of the Goombahs.
Who knew that Mike was a goal scorer all this time. Maybe we were wrong drafting him as a defenseman instead of as a forward.
Mike stayed hot for the second straight game, scoring 2-goals to add to his other goal scored last week.
Could the Goombahs have found a surprising depth forward on their team that can score goals and take some of the spotlight away from their top scoring first line of the Paisans?

Joe Shannon
The winner of the Five Guys weekly award is Joe Shannon of the Roadrunners.

Joe set up two goals in the second period to help break open a close one-goal game, and helped shut down the opponent for a shutout win.
Joe’s experience and overall play has helped the Roadrunners be very stingy on giving up goals, only allowing 11 through the first five games.

No longer in John Mastrocola’s shadow and being held back, Tony had an impact statement game. With his team missing its top two players on offense, Tony stepped up scoring a hat trick, breaking open a close game in the second period.
All three of Tony’s goals were perfectly placed shots that had a lot of zip behind them.

Another example of why Dan is well respected by his peers throughout the league took place last week, showcasing Dan’s experience, stamina, positioning and mental focus.
Playing with only three defensemen, halfway through the game, in a tie game, Dan’s team lost a defenseman. As a result, Dan played a lot of minutes, was solid defensively and positionally, and never lost a step against his younger opponents.
For all those younger and quicker defensemen, if you didn’t witness this in person, you missed out on a lesson of just what makes Dan an icon of defensemen in this sport.

The Dunkin Donuts Player of the Week award winner is Joe Carlton of Vulcan Grip.
Coming into this season we weren’t quite sure which Joe Carlton we would see. The goal scorer from years past right there as one of the league’s top scorers, or the player who goal scoring had dropped off.
You could say that Joe was definitely a wildcard. We quickly got our answer in an impact performance way, as Joe was the best player on offense for his team, scoring 2-goals and adding 2-assists. Joe factored in on every goal that his team scored.
How much of an offensive impact? In the 32 shots his team took, Joe accounted for a third of them, ripping off 10 shots.

With his team clinging to their one goal lead, John’s hustle and pressure resulted in a big insurance goal with just over two minutes to play in the game.
With his cousin Tony Fosco voicing how upset he was in the off season of not pairing up with John again, it was John who quickly put an end to all the complaining but stating “Tony who?”
