| Sir Walter Scott
Nicknamed “The Great Unknown,” Scott secretly published his wildly successful “Waverley” novels and, in so doing, helped forge the genre of historical fiction.
He maintained anonymity for years, keeping his work a secret even from his own children.

Registrations Due
This weekend all registration balances are due…, please pay your balances or request an extension…, but don’t ignore it. Before the “season of giving back” can continue…, we first must collect “the giving back” part.
All Captains will be given a list of unpaid balances…, so inquire with them.
October Give Back
We said this would be the “Season of giving back”…, and if you’re lucky enough to be playing in the league this season (you picked a good time to return for another season or make your debut) as this month we are giving away $300 to (1) lucky winner on Saturday at 5:30PM
This month we are giving away an “Encore Package” with a $150 gift card to any Encore Restaurant and $150 in spending money (aka a gambling bankroll)…, where you can swing for the fences and turn your new found cash into thousands of dollars…, or lose it all with a smile on your face as it wasn’t your money to begin with.
Optional Package: For $200 you can hire “Mr. Encore” himself Matty Iannello who will accompany you to Encore…, teach you all of his sure-fire ways to win on a slot machine and roulette…, a guided tour of the property where you’ll see where he lost the Encore Cornhole Tournament…, and before you leave, a signed personalized Matty-I Mylec stick.
Double Header Weekend
Don’t forget this weekend is our “Double Header Weekend”…, when teams will either go 2-0, 1-1 or 0-2 over the weekend. It all depends on you (and your efforts) and the efforts of the guys around you. So, here’s what you have to plan for and look forward to:

Most of us wake up achy and sore on Sunday…, just imagine what Monday is going to feel like…, and don’t forget, a couple of you are going to leave this weekend with some cash in your pockets…, but most with cash out of their pockets (unless you’re one of the lucky ones).
Sold Out!
A special thanks to Jason Carien and his salesman skills, as together with Mike Naczas they sold out the Jokers Wild board for October.
This Sunday at 5:30 come over to the penalty box (aka Pat Pirone’s Suite) and watch as both sides are flipped, and we award $400 on the spot to (2) lucky winners… or (1) even luckier winner.
Also; if you are not there, and are friends with Lee Nogler…, he can take the cash for you and Venmo you the winnings (less a small processing and convenience fee)

Good Start
The players on M*A*S*H looked a little more motivated with the addition of Jon Brown and last weeks forum teaser…, of a “Player to be named later” in Rich Pelletier.
That’s right!! Rich is back fulltime…, no more long drives to New Jersey every other weekend, for what Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst sang, when he said (He) “Did it all for the nookie”. Now Rich has the best of both worlds, his Nookie and Over-30 Hockey are both in MA full time now.
Rich and Jon are going to add a much-needed spark…, hustle…, accountability…, and more importantly scoring ability to help start winning games. Plus remember, Captain’s Mutiny went 0-8 before they turned that ship around and went on to back-to-back finals (winning one of them).
It started out good as Todd Bryson put his team on the board first…, and for two periods they played a rejuvenated type of hockey (without) one of their leaders Tommy Gallagher in the lineup.
This is definitely something M*A*S*H can rebuild on…, while on the road to the playoffs.
Down with the Sickness?
“Oh, ah, ah, ah, ah”…. Even with their two scores on the team feeling sub-par… Phoenix Rising still pulls out a win to remain undefeated thanks to veteran leadership.
Mike O’Neill walked into Hockeytown like he was hit with a bag of rag weed (or smoked) a bag of “rag weed”…, in either case Mike looked lethargic and slow.
Meanwhile Assistant Captain Matty Iannello looked like he was battling a flu bug…, but he was battling the side effects from what “Dr Naz” called a mild procedure that he had last season…, as according to the ALD it wasn’t a near death experience for Matty, it was more like;

Senior Hat Trick
With his two scoring threats slumping with illnesses…, Captain John Kelleher took matters into his own hands and scored himself a natural hat trick at age 62.
We need to apologize to the oldest Captain in the league. John was not listed on the Week #1 forum piece highlighting players in their 60’s. We did an internal investigation and found out that there was either a typo on his DOB as the application listed 2/4/1972 (52) or he committed fraud and lied about his age for the draft.
This season John is playing more like a 52yo and not a 62yo…, but it’s the opposite for his teammate Nick Romano who’s playing more like a 71yo and not a 61yo.
However, both of these players have a combined 18-points as they continue to contribute to the teams undefeated season…, and they aren’t even the oldest one on their team.
Scorers & Lumpers
The league is full of scorers and lumpers…, skilled goal scorers and skilled havoc players…, and every team has a combination of both.
For M*A*S*H…, the lumper and havoc player is Joe “Guido” Conary…., and we almost forgot about him since he only played (2) games this season.
Last week we watched Joe do “exactly” what he was drafted to do…. Go 0-8 as a new goalie in the league…, or score Hat Tricks?
No, Joe was drafted as a runner…, a guy that is going to forecheck and wreak havoc on the opposing defenses. Like all good 4th line NHL players, their job is to wreak havoc and wear down the opposition…, and sure “Guido” will definitely bury goals and get assists (if he plays more than two games)…, but more importantly Joe will be an aggressive forechecker which will lead to panic and turnovers…, M*A*S*H just needs to be ready to capitalize on his efforts.

Friendly Fire
Sean Roach got the win…, Dale McIsaac took the loss…, and Jim Barber prevented his sniper Lee Nogler from scoring a hat trick.
Jim found himself where no player should find themselves…, and that’s in the line of fire of a Lee Nogler slapshot. Lee told his captain to hold up the winger on the offensive zone draw..., and after doing his job, he headed to the front of the net…, but only got about 3 steps in route before being shot in the back and dropped instantly.
We found a short video to visualize and summarize what a Lee “Shot in the back” looks and feels like. For those (non-goalies) who have been hit by a Lee shot…, they can confirm the accuracy of the following demonstration.
|
Goalie Complaint
Hammertime Goaltender Dale McIsaac is currently drafting a formal complaint to the league in regard to Tony Medeiros and his…. “Good goal??”.
Dale’s complaint will outline how the net was off approximately 2-feet (according to some eye witnesses in Hecklers Row)…, and both Referees missed it.
With no whistle and play continuing, Tony hesitated to shoot (as he too), seeing the net was completely off its pegs. But using the Pat Pirone defense claim by saying “play and hack until the whistle blows”…, Tony fired short side (which was actually now the “far side” )
After a lengthy debate (and complaining) it was deemed a “good goal” which was a contributing factor in the loss for Hammertime.
Dale wants the goal stricken from the record, a tie game awarded…, and his personal stats adjusted to reflect the “non-goal”.
Panic Mode
It’s not very often you see a goalie almost assist on the opposing team’s goal… and them make a panicked save… off the pass he just inadvertently created.
But that’s what happened last week when Dale McIsaac tried to get cute and shoot the ball out…, only to be flubbed by Dale and picked off by Tony Medeiros.
Dale quickly went into panic mode after realizing what he just did… Tony was also in panic mode after finding the ball on his stick and a wide-open net. Together they panicked as Dale made a sprawling save, Tony missed his chance…, and then Dominic DeFrancisco came in to try and help…, but Dale shut him down too.
Moral of the story: “Don’t Panic” and “Don’t FU&# around with the ball”.

Fined
Mike Duggan had to serve a (1) game suspension and pay a $500 fine for tossing his stick in anger…, however that fine wasn’t paid to the Over-30 League, it was paid to the Topsfield Fair Organization were Mike served his (1) game suspension.
Thanks to an anonymous tipster…, Now he’s facing a $1000 fine for defacing league apparel and stolen valor.
The back-to-back Mylec player of the year was seen wearing an illegally taped white “A” on his jersey. League officials were left wondering what the “A” signified as he was not a designated “Assistant” captain.
Was Mike’s self-taped “A” in reference to:
“Anarchy”, after his tantrum last week?
“Another” scoring title in the works?
“Almost” got away with it…, if he wasn’t tipped off by a rat
Toronto Ruling
Uh-oh…, don’t look, but who’s the “Douchebag” now Leo? Up 2-0 with 5:00 minutes left to play and Leo scores the 3rd goal of the game.
After unassisted and making it 3-0 Leo quickly appealed to the on-lookers and exclaimed “The goalie was still in the net”
We quickly went to Toronto to check for official verification.
“We have a good goal…, and Leo is not a Douchebag”
1-2-...3???
Barney & Friends break a 3-game losing streak thanks to the games (#1 Star) Leo Trombley with his 2-goal (non-douchebag) performance…, and Angelo De Luca for his GWG goal just 2-minutes and 4-seconds into the game…, but we have an issue with the (#3 Star) Jake Deehan.
This is not a knock towards Jake and him facing 32-shots and making 28-saves…, but giving up a 4-goals is not a #3 Star worthy performance. The guy 200ft away in the other crease faced 20-shots and stopped all of them for a shutout (and his first win) in a month. That was a #3 Star performance.
So, our apologies to Scotty Rosato, just like you robbing Azores Express for the win…, the league robbed you for your efforts.
