Truth... Lies... Facts... and Over-30 Fiction

Zero Tolerance Reminder

It’s Week #4 and we need to remind players about the leagues “Zero Tolerance” policy.

Before we start handing down suspensions, we will remind everyone that this has always been an “invitational only” league, and a player’s skill is not as important as a player’s character.

For those new players…, or those that need a reminder;

This is a reminder that the league has a “Zero Tolerance Policy” in effect.  When you participate in the league you acknowledge that it’s your responsibility to be respectful of all players, referees, scorekeepers, administrative support individuals, and the facilities.

You are responsible for your actions, stick, and emotions at all times.

The following are (some) examples of actions that will not be tolerated and will lead to disciplinary actions up to (and including) suspension along with possible expulsion from the league:

  • Verbal abuse of Players, Referees, or League Officials.
  • Any physical contact with Referees or League Officials.

(Above infractions include both inside and outside the facility)

  • Defamation to the League, its Players and/or League Officials via all electronic communications including email and social media.
  • Throwing or slamming sticks.
  • Defacing or damaging the facilities.
  • Any intent to injure occurrences (including fighting).

League Officials include; Director(s), Timekeeper(s) and Game Statistician.

All incidents are reviewed by the League Director with input from the Board of Directors and all decisions are final.  There is no appeals process.

Zip It!

To compliment the “Zero Tolerance Policy” we want to remind players that are not wearing a “C” or an “A” to “Zip It! Or Sit it!”

We have spent years trying to get away from players questioning and debating calls during the games.  Our efforts have cut down on the number of debates and wasted time arguing calls like icing and where faceoffs should be.

The Referee’s have been deputized to start throwing offenders in the penalty box for “Delaying the games”.  If the Referee sees that you are not a lettered player, they reserve the right to tell you to go see your captain(s)…, and if the debates continue, they can toss the offending player in the box for an “Unsportsmanlike” penalty for 1-minute or, (at the Referees discretion) a 5-minute “Misconduct” penalty.

1-minute penalties will result in your team being shorthanded… and 5-minute penalties will result in 5-on-5 but with “you” sitting for 5-minutes (plus a whistle).

Egregious arguments and continuing misconduct by the players may also result in further disciplinary actions by the league.

Remember to let your Captain(s() do the arguing (if they choose) or you could take Dave Chappelle’s advice;

Golf Reservations

This week you can start letting the league know if you have a team (or want to play as a single) and we’ll make you a team foursome of Over-30 players for this year’s “Over-30 Golf Day”

This will be the 3rd Annual outing hosted by the Master of Ceremonies, Tony Medeiros.

Players can start reserving an exclusive spot…, but teams must meet the payment deadlines before Tony opens the event to the Medeiros & Correia family and friends, who will fill those spots within 24 to 48 hours.

We are starting with 20-teams but may open it to more teams.

Nothing is set in stone, tentatively we are looking at Monday May 12th at Billerica Country Club (which is offering more in terms of amenities)

Don’t wait… reserve your spot ASAP!  Here’s what spots are currently reserved.

The exclusive Over-30 Players window closes on March 15th.  After that Tony will begin filling the empty spots with family and friends who are already chomping at the bit to get in the tournament.

Ideally all Over-30 League teams should be submitted and more importantly paid in full by March 15th.   Unpaid teams run the risk of losing their spot in the tournament.

Point-man

Tony Medeiros had himself a nice little 4-goal game, scoring all of them from “the point” while filling in and playing on defense last week.

Don’t worry Chris Torres or Jason Carrien…, his stats won’t count in the defenseman leaderboard…, but he is showing what he’s going to bring to the 2025-2026 draft as Tony has already declared and informed the league that he wants to be drafted as a defenseman next season.

Hand Grenades

Leo Trombley is notorious for missing empty net goals or easy one-timers, just ask his linemate Mike Duggan.  Now Leo has another glitch in his game…. Last week he was handling passes like they were hand grenades…, Leo was just blowing up perfectly good passes left and right.  The game sheet is going to show that Leo had a goal and two assists…, but he could have had a lot more if he knew how to finish more.

Here’s video of Leo handling one of those passes and trying to hit the open net, but instead hits post;

Better Luck Next Season

Perfection has only been achieved once in the 33-years (64-Seasons) with the 2023 Spring Season Champions the Roadrunners… and it was done under the leadership of Dominic DeFrancisco, who ironically is coming off a 12-season win and are the defending champions.

This record may never be done again…, as Dominic will have to try again next season after the stunning upset by Barney & Friends.

Mike Surette was a “BIG Purple” part of the win with 2-goals including the GWG with an empty net goal…, that was not a “punk move” as it was 5-4 with over a minute to play.

Mike now joins the list of defensemen that have more goals (and) more multi-goal games than Mike Naczas.

This Old Man

Come on Garvin Chan, you had your limelight last week with your hat trick.., can you let “the oldman” Dan Broderick have his moment to shine.

Dan would have had his first goal this season (and 2nd goal) in 7-years (13-seasons) if you hadn’t stuck your stick in the way for a tip in.  Dan’s shot from the point was a laser beam, a slow laser beam, but an accurate laser beam that was heading right into the back of the net until you stole “this oldman’s” goal and rewrote his nursery rhyme;

“This old man, he scored one,

He played Last Call with Jake Brum

With a knick-knack paddywhack,

Throw the guy a bone.

This old man ain’t going home.”

Let’s go Dan you have 12-games to score a goal and have back-to-back seasons with at least one goal… something you haven’t achieved since the 2017 Winter Season (2-goals) & 2018 Spring Season (1-goal) with Team Cherry.

Let’s go Dan…, we want more shots on net!  Show Mike Naczas what legends are made of.

“Spark” ‘em Up!

Another team chasing perfection is done… Pass those “sparkplugs” around Gary Goodwin after you and the rest of Azores Express came up short with the overtime loss thanks to Jason Carrien and his monster game on defense.

Captain Dave Costa thinks Gary might have thrown the game so he doesn’t have to wait until February or March to celebrate.

On Notice

Jason Carrien is not only putting his “booze where his mouth is”… oops, sorry I mean “money where his mouth is”…, The “unofficial” Players Union Rep showed why he is the leagues MVD leader by not only scoring a hat trick last week… but the trick came in the 3-on-3 OT for the win when he buried a Matty Iannello rebound off the post and into a virtual empty net.

Jason Carrien has officially declared and put Chris Torres on notice…, that he is going to reclaim his Season MVD title for a league leading 6th time this season with shots like these;

Shepards Pie Recipe

Last week it was the battle for (2) undefeated teams… and (2) “defeated” teams living in their parent’s basement screaming for Mom’s meatloaf

If the guys living in the basement screaming for Meatloaf also scream for M*A*S*H Potatoes, a can of Corn, and top if with cheese... they can make a nice Shepards Pie while sitting on the couch in the basement with 0-3 start to the season.

Remember you’ve been here before…, you know how to turn it around.

Every week the Rob Sheridan “RPM” Chart (Rob’s Progress Meter) is climbing…, in just 3-weeks he’s hobbled himself into the number 4 spot on the leaderboard with the help of a top corner BB shot on a jet lagged goaltender Dave Giusti.

This week he’s breaking into the Defcon Yellow #4 as well since this was Rob’s best game so far.  He’s starting to backcheck more and his lower body injury is not affecting his sliding capabilities to break up offensive threats.

So, what’s Rob’s secret to an early successful comeback… we asked Mars Blackmon if he knows;

Hecklers Wreck-tangle

We have a word of caution for the players in the Over-30 League…, there is a section of the floor that is much like the Bermuda Triangle where bad things happen to players when they enter it.

The following image shows the mysterious “Hecklers Wreck-tangle”…, an undocumented hazard zone that has gobbled up many players over the years.

Recent unexplained and unprovoked happenings have almost sunk some notable maritime vessels.

This is where the “SS Donny Maccini” a disheveled “Rub & Tug-Boat” went down after tripping over the boats rope lines (aka his untied shoe laces) and almost gave himself a concussion…, and last week, the “SS Mike Naczas” a decommissioned Department of Defense “Destroyer” got hit with an invisible torpedo that knocked him on his ass.

Both vessels sustained heavy damage but not enough to put them in dry dock for a week.

No Redraw

Good News Colleen O’Connell…. You won the “Taste of Route One” drawing for the month of January.

You won all (3) of the $100 Gift Certificates (each) to the Route One restaurants that include (Jimmy’s Steer House, Grill 110, and Kowloon) plus something for the retired mailman… a $30 Gift Certificate to Kane’s Donuts for a total value of $330.

Several players were calling for a redraw since you ditched the frigid Massachusetts weather for some fun in the sun in Florida… but we’ll keep them safe until you return… just smile for the camera and get ready for three date nights courtesy of the Over-30 League.

Pending IR

Rumors started to swirl last week after M*A*S*H lost their third straight game to start the season.

Paul White was seen clutching his mid-area…, we’re not sure if it was an injury or just a stomach ailment from watching Mike Naczas take a header in the “Hecklers Wreck-tangle.”

Derrick Donegan… “felt a pop” and tweaked a previous lower body injury.  He’s listed as week-to-week.  With the Dominions losing their bid for a perfect season Rich Pelletier has offered to waive his “no trade clause” and offered to return to M*A*S*H if he gets his #20 jersey with an “A” on it…. Otherwise no deal, he’ll suffer with the Dominions and their bid to repeat as champions.
