On the Docket
The next Over-30 Hall of Famer is on the docket. Join us February 15th as we induct the other half of the “Twin Towers” of defense, Mike Hollingsworth.
Mike, who has a defensive award named after him, will now join his other half Bill Mack in the Hall of Fame. Mike will be the 11th inductee to the hall.
Hall of Fame Update: Tommy has to work on the docks, unions been on strike, its tough (so tough).
Because of the union strike and the vast amount of formatting and other projects, we must delay the unveiling of the HOF. Slated to be unveiled in January, we are now targeting the end of February. There has been a lot of progress made, but those pages will remain hidden until we are ready to share it with the players.
February Giveback
This month we are giving back to one lucky player a $250 shopping spree through our partnership with Mylec President Rick Laperriere and the Mylec Corporation.
The winner will be given the option to visit Mylec in Winchendon MA and pick out whatever you like (up to $250.00) Sticks, Gloves, Shin Pads…, and also take a tour of the Mylec Facility. Rick is a really nice guy, and he typically throws in some Mylec swag as a bonus.
If you don’t want to take the tour, you can still use the Over-30 credit up to $250 and we’ll make arrangements to have it picked up for you. Winner to be drawn next week (February 8th).
Scoring Challenge
It’s that time of the year again…. After the first 1/3 of the season we will add the Spring Scoring Challenge to the website, so you can measure your probability for being eligible to be entered into the drawing. More details to follow next week.
5-minute Clarification
For two weeks in a row now we have seen a player get a game misconduct (and get tossed) … and for the second week in a row we had the same debate on the rink about a player serving the penalty.
So, let’s clear it up once and for all… now pay attention!
Different leagues have different rules… Over-30 vs MISI vs NBHL vs Hockeytown… and this one is ours;
If you get a 5-minute “Misconduct” penalty for slamming your stick, tomahawking it or any other offense that earns you 5-minutes in the box… (You!) are going to serve the 5-minutes (plus a whistle) as teams will continue to play 5-on-5 during your penalty.
If you get 5-minutes and get tossed out of the game, no one will serve the 5-minutes as play is not affected on the rink… teams will continue to play 5-on-5 during your ejection. How can you penalize an innocent player for 5-minutes (plus a whistle) to sit in the penalty box for something a teammate did?
However, if you get a 1-minute penalty, and then turn that into a game misconduct by arguing, debating, tossing a stick… and, (you) get ejected on top of the initial penalty… (then yes!), a player will need to serve your initial 1-minute penalty (but not the game misconduct). The penalized team will play shorthanded for 1-minute.
