When I (Bill Abcunas) began playing up at Hockeytown in 1980, Bill Mayne was a teammate of mine on my first team. Over the years, we played on the same team as well as competed against each other in Hockeytown leagues and tournaments. We both loved playing and had a strong passion for the game.
Unfortunately, Bill passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly and his death was the first one by someone from my generation. Upon reflection, I created the seasonal Bill Mayne Memorial Award in his memory, given out to that league player who exceeded expectations and stood out with his contributions to his team.
