Tournament Weekend
This weekend we want to wish the old guys in the Over-30 League (50+) good luck in this weekend’s Super Series (Over 50) Tournament in Gloucester. Sorry but there are too many participating players to list, but every team is affected.
Dave Wilson gets to experience firsthand all the details that are affiliated with running a league and/or a tournament. So, we wish Dave good luck as a player and an organizer.
Good luck to Mike O’Neill & Mike Duggan with their participation in the Chiclets Cup 2026 in the Seaport in Boston, sponsored by Barstool Sports where they used the term “world-class street hockey” in their promotion of the event.
Unfortunately, Head Referee Jon Picard will be dealing with old men bitchin’ and blowing his whistle at an Over-50 Tournament in Gloucester… while his counterpart Phil Russo will be sipping champagne with Dave Portnoy and blowing his whistle at a “world-class street hockey” event in the Seaport. Either way, I’m sure they will both be blowing calls.
Congrats – SCABS!!
Congratulations Elder Lopes and Pedro Fontes for this season’s first “Give Back to the Players” raffle winners. Elder & Pedro each received a $150 voucher for Encore… (SCABS!)

Reminder
Remember… we pushed out this weekend’s double header to next weekend October 17th & 18th to accommodate those players and referees involved with the tournaments.
Mark your calendars and tell your family… next weekend is the 1st “Double Header Weekend” of the season.

Cruise Control
Looks like Dominic DeFrancisco is just three games deep into the season and about to hit the “cruise control” button with his new Wing-Ah’s team.
3-games, 3-wins, only 3-goals allowed (1per game) and 16-goals scored for… how much easier can it get for goaltender Dale McIssac, who said yes to his “Blind Goalie Challenge” before he even knew who his defense was.
Three games… Three wins… so far, they are “Perf…shhhhh”… still to soon??

Dive Bomber
Last week Jamie Kehoe did his best Pete Rose diving into 3rd base impression, as (Kehoe) chased down a ball in the offensive zone and with a diving, falling, sweeping motion… somehow managed to score on goaltender Scotty Rosato who was completely dumbfounded by what he was witnessing in front of him.
We asked Scotty if he’s ever seen a player put a move on him like that and Scotty said “I didn’t know what he was doing, was he falling… then I thought, oh wait he’s a defenseman, he doesn’t know what he is doing on a breakaway”
And yet, like a Japanese kamikaze pilot… Jamie was committed to score that goal and “Dive Bombed” for his captain, who (by the way) had zero points on the game sheet last week!

9-1-1
(Operator) “9-1-1 What’s your emergency?”
(Caller) “My hockey team is 0-2 and I was told to call this number and ask for Ben.”
(Operator) “Sir this number is for emergencies only!”
(Caller) “Yes, we’re 0-2, only scored 1-goal, our Captain is hurt and no one on the team will “Get me the assist””
(Operator) “Sir, what is your name, I’m reporting you to the Police?”
(Caller) “Me? It’s Naz.., No, No, No,… I mean Gino!!”

100%’er
Last week while Brew’ins captain Dave Costa was sipping and smoking away in Florida… Meanwhile, Nick Doherty was back home putting in work and earning his Over-30 Patch.
Motorcycle gangs have their “1%’er” patch to signify they operate outside of the other law-biding 99% of other riders.
The Over-30 League has a “100%’er” patch to signify they factored into all 100% off their teams scoring that week. The NBHL Tier 3 Champion will tell you… he doesn’t care about “Wins & Losses” that’s for Costa to worry about… Nick likes to measure himself in “Goals & Assists”, hence his #1 status on the leaderboard this week.

Back to the 90’s
It was “Back to the 90’s Night” at Hockeytown last week for the late game. Snap those glow sticks and get on the dance floor as every Chickenhawks goal was either scored by a player in the 90’s or assisted by one.
Donny Maccini wearing #97… looks and runs like he’s 97, started the chain of 90’s goals, Donny #97, Patrick Spencer #92 and Shawn Mulcahy #91
Shawn Mulcahy #91 was playing like it was 1991 when he had a mullet. Fun fact about Shawn, he (and his mullet) joined the league in 1998 and won 3 out of 4 championships in his first 4-seasons. Turns out he wouldn’t win again until 2023 with Captain’s Mutiny and his wife Colleen O’Connell.

Another Fork?
Gary Goodwin was the late hero for the Leafpeepers scoring their teams only goal of the game with 2:09 to play and ruining Sean Roach’s second potential shutout bid of the season.
Gary is one of the participants in this weekend’s tournament in Gloucester… lets just hope when Gary passes the Golden Banana, at the “Fork” in Route 1… he doesn’t turn around and head home on another Friday night.

FORE!! Head
This is a PSA to all the Over-30 Players and especially those who are golfing enthusiasts. If you’re playing defense, and you wind up to take a slapshot dump-in attempt… Please yell “FORE!!” if your own teammate (and golf foursome partner) is standing in front of you.
Last week Timmy “Tito” Burke had fill-in player Mike Duggan so confused… At one point, it looked like “Tito” was going to flip it up to Mike who was standing on the line waiting for the pass to break in… then all of a sudden “Tito” wound up and drilled Mike, right in the forehead... leaving a circular impression on his head for the ride home.
Remember: Tito's Vodka, Drink Responsibly and Play Defense Responsibly Too!
