2025 Winter Season Forum
For 2025 let us introduce to you...
"The Unknown Comic Writer"

We asked the League's Front Office and HR Department for the name and idenity of the weekly Forum writer.

The records request reveiled that "You".... was the only name listed on the W2 and Senior League Officals verified the indeed "You" write the Forum, as the motto has always been... "The Forum Writes Itself".

So "You" just keeping being "You" and we'll publish your weekly antics here.  ~Enjoy!!

Article 551 - September 27, 2025

Truth... Lies... Facts... and Over-30 Fiction

Special Announcement

Please join us 5:30 center rink as we kick off another “Season of Giving Back”… this is a special give back, so please make sure you huddle up and listen to what the League Director has to say.

Senior Skip Day

As we try to be transparent and keep our players up to date with league news (and late breaking news) we must address a few of our senior players who are taking this season off (but not retiring)

After their disappointing loss in the finals last season, Dan Broderick is taking this winter season off to reflect on what he could have done differently to send Matty Iannello off into retirement with one last final championship win.

After “Legend Killer” Dave Costa sent Matty off to the retirement farm with a disappointing 3-2 loss… and based on this photo, we suspect fellow teammate Jason Carrien is doing the same and reflecting during his time off on how (he too) could have done better for “The Great One”… Jason is so embarrassed about Matty’s final loss that he’s resorting to wearing a disguise just to come up and watch the games.

Before "The Great One" Loss
After "The Great One" Loss

Mark Stickney has also decided to extend his summer downtime until January 2026.  Mark had a tough season with M*A*S*H and he needs some extra time to cope with the fact that when he looks back to see if his goalie is ready… that once again it was going to be Dave Giusti, who Mark said is a better “grill-tender” than goaltender.

Plus, he still blames Timmy “Tito” Burke for missing half the season that also helped contribute to him failing the “Pink Shirt” challenge.

Oh!, and Mark, that “Pink Shirt” will be waiting for you (when you return), you are not getting out of that failed wager that easy… Goaltender Scotty Rosato had to wear his pink cloak of failure for several seasons, and we suspect the current “Blind Goalie Challenger” Dave Giusti will be next to wear the “blind stench” of goaltender failure… but not Sean Roach, who crushed his goalie challenge two seasons ago.

Paul White is also taking this season off for some extended recovery (probably from his refereeing days) as Paul is “1st & Goal” on the 5-yard line of retirement.

All these senior players (except Jay) are eligible for the Over-30 Hall of Fame… but none of them are ready to go in just yet.  We’ll look to see them “walking through that door” in January and (yes) according to Rick Pitino, they will be “gray and old”… but they should still be playing in 2026… stay tuned!

Help Wanted

With the players on the “waiting list” (waiting less) to get an opportunity to play in the league… we need to build up the waiting list and look to evaluate some new talent.

Kevin Wilson earned his spot on Capo-Zero… and Seth Ford is showcasing his talents to Rob Sheridan and Dave Costa for a potential roster spot in the league… meanwhile Dan Porier Sr went from the “waiting list” to the “IR List”… and Tommy Smith went from the “No Invite List”… to the “Guest List”… to the “Recovery List”  before he could even make a “Team List”.

So please put the word out… We are looking for some fresh new talent to get onto the waiting list, then fill-in for absent players and work their way onto a roster spot.  Have them go to the website and sign up or come up and talk to Billy directly.

Just remember the Over-30 criteria… Good player, good guy, has both playing and financial commitments to the league.  The league has seen an influx of “good guys” make their way into the league over the recent years… and that’s why this “invitational only” league has been so successful for the past 34-years.

Jokers Wild

Pick-a-Card…. The new season of “Jokers Wild” kicks off this weekend.  For those new players, this is one of the leagues fundraising events throughout the entire season.

Director of Fundraising and Special Events, Tony Medeiros will have a giant foam board with all the cards from a playing deck taped to both sides of the board.

The Home Team and the Away Team are taped up accordingly with each side hiding one “Joker” amongst the cards.

Pay $10 (per card) and sign your name on the back of the card… when the game is filled  with signatures (typically once a month) … Tony will start flipping the cards (live) at the penalty box to reveal the jokers from each side.  The two lucky players that signed the back of the Joker Cards win $200 each (Cash – No taxes)… and yes you can win both sides if you’re lucky enough to sign both joker cards, so don’t forget to play both sides.

Here’s a tip for new players wanting in on the action… if you see a card with the name “Lee” on it… you want to buy up the cards around his neighborhood as Lee has been our most successful winner to date (and also Lee buys a lot of cards) so there are many surrounding cards in “Lee’s” neighborhood to choose from.

No Respect

Poor Leo Trombley is going around trying to plead his case saying there’s 72-guys in the league and that the forum writer(s) should write about them too and not just target him in the forum (week after week)…. Even if he’s not playing that week.

Well Leo, as the saying goes… “The Forum writes itself” and there is no such thing as bad press… but we hear you… and your complaining also remind us of someone;

So, here’s a little respect Leo… Nice (unassisted) goal off the draw… and right in front of the owner’s suite.  You quickly shut your critics up with a great individual effort.

But like your captain  Dave Costa says, “Give Leo a week… he’ll miss another wide-open net…, Afterall he’s Leo, King of the whiffs!!!”

Paging Dr Rob?

Paging “Dr Rob”… Rob Sheridan please pick up the white courtesy phone as your team needs your help.  They barely went 1-1 in your absence and that’s only because of Todd Bryson’s GWW (Game-Winning-Whiff).

Rumors had you out for the season from possibly stepping on a golf ball while on the green putting for a birdie… to considering a sit-out until Dan Broderick comes back… or that maybe you didn’t want Dave Costa to fail at his quest of “Making Rob Great Again”

Either way… grab your new “Shitty Shorts” courtesy of Mike Naczas and let’s see what you’ll do against a “Cam-less” Cam-A-Lot.

New Goal Celebration

We might have a new goal celebration for those teams playing the Poo Bears… Here we’ll let this guy explain;

We just don’t recommend it when Dave Costa is on the rink (and losing)…, Dave is like Ray Nickerson sometimes (but without the Cialis) … “Slash first and ask questions later”

5:30 - Cam-A-Lot vs. Tommy Guns
# 1 Star Tommy Gallagher
#2 Star Tony Mastrocola
#3 Star Alex Leone

Cam-IR-Lot

Uh-oh!!… “The Chosen One”… the heir to the throne is going to miss his second straight game with an upper body injury.  Once again Cam Long will be “Cam the Doorman” for his team.

Everyone seems to be a rink doctor and offering treatments to Cam.  From prescribing icing in 20-minute spurts, to Methamphetamine’s, to Gary Goodwin’s OTC horse cream (and sparkplug) treatment.

One thing for sure, opposing teams defense have a sigh of relief when they see Cam in street clothes… it’s like a “staycation” not having to worry about Cam turning you inside out and sprinting past you… and goalies love saving on their GAA with him out of the lineup.

Rest up Cam… remember these 15-games are just practice for the final two or three games of the season in December… and  Patrick Spencer is going to take the 30-goal Challenge this season…. You can try it next season.

Tommy Gunners!

Holy Smokes!!  Did you see the leader board?  The top (4) scorers are all Tommy Guns players… with Tony Mastrocola (7pts) peeing in the big urinal and running with the big boys; Mike Duggan (10pts), Patrick Spencer (9pts), and Tommy “Guns” Gallagher (9pts).

We predicted this season MVP would come from this team, but could we see a Mastrocola Valuable Player?  No, not you Johnny, you’d probably pull a hammy walking up to get the award… we’re talking about the real two position player (Tony) Mastrocola .

For Mike Duggan and Patrick Spencer, if you’re going to have someone ride your coattails (thankfully) he’s a little fella and you won’t throw your back out carrying him.

Now Tony Mastrocola we do have to warn you… last week you were playing against a guy that “HATES!” when players over celebrate meaningless goals, and thankfully he (Donny Maccini) was on the bench when you scored the 7th goal  of a 7-0 game and celebrated like you scored the GWG.

Just remember, you’re wearing #77 and would the real #77 celebrate a 7-0 goal?

Also, for the rest of you #77 wearing players; Marty Makarewicz & George Medeiros enjoy it this season… as that number will definitely be raised to the rafters come November and unavailable come next September.

6:30 - First Responders vs. The Revolution
#1 Star Ron Aquino
#2 Star Scott Rosato
#3 Star Rich Pelletier

First Career

Congratulations to The Revolution forwards Mike Braga and JR Liwanag on their 1st Over-30 Goals of their new Over-30 playing careers.  JR has a career stat line as a goalie 2003-2005 with (3) seasons played and (1) championship win… but this was his first goal as a forward, some 20-years later.

For Mike Braga we’re speculating this is going to be the first of many goals for the rookie… as we are “gauging” that he’s going to be an effective player in this league.

Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité

Two weeks ago, The Revolution celebrated a “moral” victory with a 4-3 comeback loss to Cam-A-Lot… and last week they celebrate a “real” victory with a very convincing win over First Responders…  For The Revolution it was “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” meaning "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" for the team with something to prove this season.

Like we told Leo Trombley… “The Forum writes itself” and right after lasts weeks edition when it was said that; “The Revolution is a team of “Superstar-less” players… but I think once they find their identity they can run with the big dogs”

We think they found the beginning of their identity…. “Speed & Forecheck” are their founding pillars, as three of their goals came off a panicked defenseman… and they spread the scoring around to six different scores… and let’s not forget their defense and Scotty Rosato kept the opposing scoring to just one.

Roasted, Toasted & Burned

If was not a good week to be Elder Lopes on defense.  One of the league’s premier defensemen looked like he could use a shot of Robitussin for his “cough”… as Elder “coughed” up some key turnovers that resulted in goals.

It wasn’t even a “That’s a Minus”… it was more like “That’s an Apple”… turnover!!

Thankfully Elder is going into his first of many “BYE” weeks… wait, Elder gets “BYE” weeks?

Yes, they are called “BC Home Games” and there are (6) that Elder will miss before the playoffs… oh and don’t forget snow days… BC Frat parties… and  family vacations, which brings us to our Encore WynnBet “Winter Season” wager for Lee Nogler to bet on.

Which number will be greater?  The number of games Elder misses… or the number of goals that Cam Long will score this season?  After this week it will be 2-1 Cam.

Over-50 Seniors Tournament

Next week there is an Over-50 Seniors Tournament in Gloucester and several of our league players will be playing in it…. We just ask that you give your captain plenty of notice as to your playing status for next Saturday’s games.

We are not going to go crazy trying to find fill-in players… your team might  “get what they get” last minute from players willing to double up.  So don’t be surprised if you see Pat Pirone or Nick Romano hobbling onto the rink to double up, or Jim Barber scoring for your team (but not his own), or the “Flyin Hawiian” Ron Aquino filling in for one of your senior absentees.  But we are not giving you a Steve Silveira for a Mike Naczas… or a Mike Duggan for a Dave Wilson… they must fit the needs of the shorthanded team.

Mutiny D2 Champs?

Speaking of other non-Over-30 League Championships… Congratulations to Hockeytown’s  Wednesday night D2 Champions… The Mutiny.

Several players from the Over-30 League were represented in the D1 Championship win, so let us recognize the back-to-back D2 champions: Mike Surette, Donny Maccini, Dave Giusti, Rich Pelletier, Manny Nunes and Mike O’Neill… along with former player Nick Doherty and we think Cam Long (another solid D2 player) might have even played in the finals if he wasn’t on IR.

This “D2” team beat Mike Duggan and Paul Firicano from Mean Machine, but not without some controversy as sources are reporting that there were some shenanigans involved around the one individual in the photo that looks like he doesn’t belong.

And if you guessed Mike O’Neill because he’s black… you’re wrong…, we’ll you’re kinda right… Mike’s controversy comes not from the color of his skin, but the color of his jersey and the number of players.

Others say it’s time to step up and take a run at a D1 Championship with your NBHL players, either way good luck with your “three-pete” attempt next summer.  Hopefully the “three-pete” killer Jon Picard doesn’t play for Mean Machine next summer, you all saw what he did to Olive Pits a few years back at their “three-pete” attempt.
