Official Newsletter of the Old-Time Hockey Over-30 League

34-Seasons and counting...

Article 559 - November 22, 2025

Truth... Lies... Facts... and Over-30 Fiction

5:30 Induction

Don’t forget to be on the rink at 5:30… Everyone is invited as we induct Matty “The Great One” Iannello as the 14th inductee into the Over-30 Hockey League, Hall of Fame.

During the creation of his award, we discovered another record with GWG’s, which now makes it official, he is now the current record holder in all regular season categories with Points (1431), Goals (569), Assists (862) and GWG’s (74)

The only record left to break is the most attendees in a ceremonial photo (48) and we hear the Iannello squad will be in attendance… so remember to smile for the camera.

Balance Due (Today)

The 5:30 Hall of Fame ceremony is FREE to attend… but if you owe a balance to the league, that will be your only time that you’re allowed to step on the rink.

Players who still owe a balance are required to pay it off on Saturday (BEFORE) their game starts… or sit until the balance is paid in full (up to and including the playoffs).

Thank You!

We want to thank the board members who stepped in and took over running the league during the Abcunas’ vacation to Florida last weekend.

With no real incidents to report of (other than a board member getting tossed) for 3-penalties and continuing to play.  They can feel confident about leaving the league in the good hands of their trusted board members.

Thank you to Tony Medeiros for tracking shots, keeping the games moving, and getting tossed… We will be addressing the penalty mishap with the league officials, both on (and off) the rink as we re-train them on what (3) penalties mean.

Thank you to Mike Naczas (aka Fredo) we knew it was you all along, thank you for your swift actions as the Assistant League Director regarding the above matter.

Thank you, Jim Barber,… for showing up and doing nothing extra.

Winner-Winner!!

Congratulations, Phil Russo and AJ Larabee with your $200 wins on Jokers Wild.

Director of Fundraising and Special Events, Tony Medeiros, will be taking a break from Jokers Wild for a few.  Tony will be re-tooling his fundraising efforts and last week he was seen leaving with (2) coolers, so look for another “Give Back to the Players” raffle this week at 6:30, and just in time for “Thanksgiving”… courtesy of the Board of Directors, who want to “Give Thanks!” to two lucky players.

Week # 12 Saturday, November 15
4:30 PM Tommy Guns 1 Capo-Zero 2
5:30 PM Poo Bears 3 First Responders 2
6:30 PM Cam-A-Lot 4  (OT) The Revolution 5

4:30 - Tommy Guns vs. Capo-Zero
#1 Star George Medeiros
#2 Star Joe Conary
#3 Star Dale McIsaac

Snapped!

Capo-Zero snaps a 4-game losing streak thanks to the letter “W” and the number “0”.

We all know basic math that 1+1=2… but now they have some new math they teach in school, as we just learned last week that 0+00=1, “1-goal that is.”

Thankfully Joe Conary (0) and Jamie Kehoe (00) added their numbers together on the scoring sheet to get Capo-Zero their first goal of the game.

But it was the sweet pass from Shawn Mulcahy who patiently waited behind the net until George Medeiros flew into the high slot and buried a picture-perfect one-timer for the GWG with 3:08 left to play.

It should be noted that Capo-Zero who dropped from 1st place to their current residency at 5th place… is only 2-points from the second seed (for the second available playoff BYE).

They just need that one missing piece… that one player who seems to be MIA.

Leader Race

Mike “Poopsie” Duggan was the one lonely highlight with his last-ditch effort goal for the 2-1 loss to Capo-Zero.

Uh-Oh “Doo-gan”… don’t look now but Pedro Fontes is only 2-points from tying you for the top spot on the leader board… and your team glue and captain Tommy Gallagher might be out on short-term IR after his awkward stumble last week.

Mike, this is where a two-time Mylec “Player of the Year” steps up and puts the team on his back to march back up the standings.  Why don’t you pull Matty Iannello aside after his ceremony and ask the new “Hall of Famer” for advice on how to lead by example.

Spit Balls

They went from Tommy Guns to Squirt Guns, to Finger Banging, and now they might be the lowest form of lethal weapons… “The Spit Ball”

With their 3rd straight loss and once a high-powered offense, they are now a shell of their former selves… and with their captain Tommy Gallagher going down awkwardly before leaving the game, the last quarter  mile to the playoffs just got a little tougher.

This is when players like Tony Mastrocola and Johnathan Caffarrella show their captain what they are capable of… as second-line sleeper agents.

5:30 - Poo Bears vs. First Responders
#1 Star Pedro Fontes
#2 Star Rob Sheridan
#3 Star Marty Makarewicz

7th Straight

There is no “Shitty” pun or joke to be had, as the Poo Bears are now the hottest team in the league (and maybe since) dare we say it… The Roadrunners!?

We’d have to look back and see when the last (non-perfect) team had a 7-game winning streak… but Dave Costa has his team dialed in, and on his way to another championship with his third straight team as a captain.  Rob Sheridan is back running on two good ankles, and Marty Makarewicz is making the most of his playing time with Rob.

But as we all know… that first week playoff BYE is often a jinx, so there are no guarantees in the Over-30 League other than the $350 per season.

Booked

With their 7th win in the books… Dave Costa decided “to book” his trip to Florida for the first round of the playoffs.  Dave looked at the schedule page and saw Week #16 – Saturday December 13th – BYE (First Seed) and said “book’ em, Dano”.  Dano is his travel agent,

With a 5-point lead and 6-games to play… the Poo Bears are the lock pick of the week to finish 1st in the league, the spot once reserved for Tommy Guns.

Blind Challenge

Despite losing 3-2, First Responders goalie Dave Giusti had another solid performance in net giving up only 3-goals towards his “Blind Goalie Challenge”

For those of you who don’t know and especially for those defenseman and back-checkers on First Responders, the League Director has a signed envelope in the Over-30 safe… and in that safe is an envelope with Dave’s fate in it.

Dave has 3-weeks left in his GAA challenge… where he must beat the mystery number that is written down in a piece of paper inside that sealed and signed envelope, and we hope that his teammates are not only playing for the wins… but playing to help Dave beat his challenge.

With one goalie who failed and was tortured miserably for years with the pink shirt and another the passed with flying colors… Dave’s fate comes down to these last 3-games.

6:30 - Cam-A-Lot vs. The Revolution
#1 Star Jason Carrien
#2 Star Dan Poirier Sr.
#3 Star Derrick Power

Productive Return

After 4-weeks on IR with a lower body injury, The Revolution captain Jim Barber made his return to action, leaving the doorman position to fellow assistant captain Steve Silveira who is still out on short-term IR.

Jim scored two goals in his quest to beat Mike Naczas in their summer meetings wager of Jim’s (Goals) vs Naz (Points)… the ALD has a 2-point lead as they battle down the stretch.

However, Jim has the tougher task as he actually has to score goals, rather than just begging for assists.

Tossed?

Give a man some power for a day and he thinks he’s invincible and above the law.

Tony Medeiros who had to dock Referee Phil Russo’s pay for showing up late… must have thought his authority carried over onto the rink, when after his double minor penalty (Tony) was not ejected from the game despite an opposing player without a “C” or an “A” asking the timekeeper for a ruling.

Tony should have been tossed at the 9:41 mark of the third… but instead he had a parole time of 6:41 and upon exiting the penalty box he assisted on the game tying goal at 6:15 (just 26-seconds) after hopping back on the rink illegally.

Once the ALD had the illegal player removed from the game and from the bench, as all ejected players (including captains and board members) must exit the bench area.

The game carried into overtime, where that non-“C” or “A” player (Jason Carrien) got revenge for his team (and their extra point) with a GWG with 1:00 left to play in OT.

The Revolution started a petition to have Tony’s assist stricken from the records, as the only question now is… will that “stolen assist” and game tying goal (and subsequent team point) for Cam-A-Lot have any effect in the standings race?

Moustache Power

Derrick Power has been sporting a caterpillar on his upper lip all season, and it’s paying dividends for him.

Derek and his “Moustache Power” has doubled his season goals from two to four with a “natural moustache trick” by scoring the first two goals of the game “unassisted”.

You heard right, two consecutive “unassisted goals” which is no small feat… as goaltender Scotty Rosato found himself staring at Derrick’s moustache instead of the ball.

Head Start

He’s out this week, but Jason Carrien is giving current leading defenseman Dave Costa a 4-game head start (5 with his absence this week) before he comes back in Week #14 to take a run at the top spot on the defenseman leader board and Dave’s 4-point lead.

This week Dave can solidify another lucite award for the mantel if he can add to his lead… and make both top spots in the standings (Poo Bears & Leading Defenseman) unbeatable by Week #16

Thermometer Check

The league would like to apologize to all the teams that have been “Mis-temperature-ized” in the standings this season.

The league is going to send out the Over-30 Thermometer for calibration.  We are going to work with the ranking staff during the mid-season break in December and put new guidelines into effect when deciding which teams are Hot, Warm & Cold.

Players have complained about a team’s temperature, and we will have new tighter guidelines for the 2026 Spring Season.

Chew & Screw

The League Director sent out a message to all the captains to share with their teams.

The message was simple…just like in a restaurant setting;  “Chew & Screw”

Once your game is over… gather your shit and get off the rink.  The league is focused on keeping the games moving along, and on time.

Before your game and during warmups… when the buzzer sounds, pick up the balls, pick your 5-starters and be ready to go when the referee blows the whistle.

Thanks to technology and AI (Artie Insults) we now have the ability capture the Over-30 League in a whole new perspective, through comics.
